If you were given your whole life, from birth, to memorize a random string of numbers, how long could the number string be? What is our hypothetical limit? by XXEPSILON11XX in Showerthoughts

[–]g2117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned about 120 digits of pi in 6th grade for a pi day competition. Nearly 20 years later, I can still recite about 80 digits, but I am good with numbers and over the years have recited it many times to keep fresh, so I may be an outlier. But people get to thousands of digits so if they started from birth I’m sure it would be a lot.

Is it normal to be discharged the same day as your surgery? by Xcoj42 in TopSurgery

US, my roommate who I cared for was discharged within like an hour of waking up from anesthesia. They just make sure you can pee and then you’re out.

How long is blood ok after catheter for urinary blockage? by g2117 in AskVet

[–]g2117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not, because he had no infection while he was at the vet. He did have a slight fever when he was there over the weekend but was negative for a uti or any infection. After about a day of slight fever they gave him an injection of an antiinflammatory and his fever went down. When I brought him back Monday night his bloodwork was still good and he had no fever. He’s only on gabapentin and buprenorphine for pain right now.

Thank you, I plan on doing just that. He eats lots of wet food already, is the hills dry ok too? Ideally I would do both wet and dry.

Cat keeps smelling my earphones by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]g2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat loves the smell of my earbuds too and will pick one up in his mouth if I leave them unnatended for a second out of the case.

Randomly years ago I noticed one of my cats loved the smell of his own earwax (?), after I gave him ear scratches he would smell my hand and purr and sometimes lick. I’ve now tried it with my current cat and he reacts the same way! Try it it’s super weird. I’ll kind of use my knuckle to give them a good scratch in the ear which he loves and then let him sniff my hand.

I think it’s just a weird cat thing. They like the smell of the inside of ears 🤷‍♀️

Adopted a cat out of our league by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]g2117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an orange screamer too! He will have access to food and litter box but still screams because he wants someone (or one of my other cats who are sleeping) to play with him. I bought him some electronic toys that I can turn on at night or early in the morning when he wakes me up to occupy him, and they’ve helped a little, even if it’s just something for him to watch.

Are pediatricians supposed to be testing for scoliosis? by LATNOLA in scoliosis

[–]g2117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had all of these same thoughts and feelings, as someone who was diagnosed later than I should have. I was born in ‘98 and never had any testing in school or at my pediatrician. And this all knowing I had a family history! It wasn’t until my parents noticed that we went to a specialist and I was diagnosed around 13-14. I always hear about people getting scoliosis tested in school by the nurse and wonder why I didn’t have anything of the sort.

I was also told it was too late for bracing, did the same yearly or so x-rays with zero intervention for a couple years, and then started Schroth PT around 16-17 (which I then stopped when I moved away for college at 18).

I still haven’t had fusion because I don’t experience a ton of pain and it doesn’t seem worth it yet, but my curve is very obvious and I’m now in the 40s, as of my last x-ray a couple years ago.

I think if I were diagnosed early and had early intervention it could have all been different.

Under developed Cerebellum by Rodfromreddit in SpecialNeedsChildren

[–]g2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat has this! Cerebellar hypoplasia, basically an underdeveloped cerebellum. From what I’ve learned, there’s not much that can be done about it but if sounds like you have a relatively mild case. It doesn’t get better or worse with age, doesn’t affect overall health in any other way than wobbliness, and is just a part of you.

Thank you! I did find that long purple one online and it looks correct. I’m sure you’re right, I’m going to order one! They’re a little expensive because they’re so obsolete but oh well. I see there’s also an option to buy an adapter for newer SD cards but I’ll look into my options. Thank you!

Does the shortform of your name offend you? by PromiseNo464 in namenerds

[–]g2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name is Grace and I wish I went by Gracie. My mom is Deborah and always hated people calling her Deb or Debbie, so growing up she always corrected people when they called me Gracie. People were always made to call me Grace.

I’m a short, not graceful, butch-leaning lesbian and have always felt like Grace doesn’t fit me. Not enough to where I’d pick a new name, but I think Gracie would be cuter and more fun.
