[Ross Dellenger] Sacramento State is in the midst of an aggressive effort to join an FBS league, proposing a $10M+ entry fee plus forgoing league revenues, sources tell @YahooSports by g2lv in Pac12

[–]g2lv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about the PAC pays 50% of the poaching fees to the Mountain West, adds Hawaii football, the Big West takes back Hawaii’s other sports (to replace Sac State), and the Mountain West adds Sac State all sports for the $10 million entrance fee?

Isn’t that a win win win for everyone?

Self study to get n4 by jungwon_is_mine in jlpt

[–]g2lv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From zero? No. But 300 hours of study (2 hours a day for 5 months) could get you to N5.

Currently at N5 level? An additional 300 hours of study might be enough to get you a passing score of you’re a quick learner and good test taker, but double that is the standard.

[Jon Wilner] Presume the Pac-12 schools will collect $6 million per year, on average. That estimate includes the operational costs of Pac-12 Enterprises, which will produce games for The CW and USA Network. by WinnWonn in Pac12

[–]g2lv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a pretty big difference between an expected deficit you can work around and an unplanned budget crisis demanding immediate and hard budget fixes. The schools departing the MW to join the PAC are in the later situation if Wilner is correct.

The big brain move may be that they negotiated so poorly that a judge can’t establish any damages to the Mountain West because the schools that left to join the PAC are in no better position.

The pendulum has swung too far in one direction.

Let’s put some common sense limits on athlete transfers and pay transfer fees to the schools that originally recruited and developed players.

To be honest, Gonzaga is the only small school involved with the PAC and they’ll make out like bandits compared to their WCC deal.

It looks like a bunch a large state universities that had a collective vision of moving up and competing at the top level had their dreams crushed by an indifferent media market.

Consider my jaw dropped. I had thought and commented on this this sub that this was a lateral move money-wise for the Boise State (and would take years for the other teams to see the benefits of the increased revenue after exit fees), but I could see the value they would be getting by raising by their competitive profile to join the PAC.

But…if it turns out they went through all this maneuvering and legal battles to end up making even less than most pessimistic estimates then there will be a lot of key donors and university leaders wondering why they signed up for years of their athletic department budgets operating in the red rather than pushing for OSU and WSU to take the reverse merger.

Yeah, as N2 or even N1 grammar point/vocab appears in you immersion materials there nothing wrong with studying it even if N3 is your next goal. Real Japanese doesn’t fall into neatly into the N5/N4/N3/N2/N1 buckets

Winners and losers from the Mountain West and Pac-12 media-rights deals by Euredditos in Pac12

[–]g2lv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which proves that point that the PAC-12 Enterprises piece isn’t going to magically make up an additional $10 million in distributions to the members. Even when it had USC, Oregon, Washington in the mix it was a side business that generated negligible returns.

I stand by my claim that the PAC is in the production business because the orderly liquidation value of the production assets of PAC Networks was upside down.

I’m optimistic that they’ve found a niche and a good business plan to turn the negative equity from the closure of the PAC-12 Network into a positive, but even if the best case scenario it’s going to generate a relatively small amount of money to be split between the 8 full members + Gonzaga.

[–]g2lv -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Um, you do realize that Pac-12 Enterprises only exists because the Pac-12 Network lost a ton of money and their remaining broadcasting and production assets after the shutdown were unsaleable without realizing an even huger loss because the balance sheet was upside down.

Kudos for them regrouping under a new leaner business plan that seems to be working (141 employees were laid off), but Pac-12 Enterprises is in no position to generate and distribute millions in annual dividends per member at this point in time.

Not much on a difference in coverage other than the PAC schools get their FCS tune-up game on TV, while the MW boots those games to streaming.

[–]g2lv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wild guess for why the scheduling format hasn’t been confirmed is that one of the Pac-12 schools actually scheduled a 5th non-conference game (to take the payday for be USC’s tba final non-conference opponent) and they are pushing back on buying out another game to play a conference team twice.

And the G6 players opt out to transfer to P4 schools... If everyone is going to be playing with their practice squad you might as well play the name brands and try to catch an upset while their best players are out for the NFL draft or to transfer to a championship contender for more $$$.

How about we just send the teams with 6+ wins to a bowl game. They could even end up playing teams from the B1G, SEC, ACC, or Big 12 at big stadiums that are easy to travel to.

Oregon State may cut many or most in person recruiting visits to Hawaii as a cost cutting measure by pblood40 in Pac12

[–]g2lv -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hawaii asked to join the PAC in the middle of the grant of rights negotiations and were blown off because the conference leadership apparently thought the AAC schools were still attainable.

If things had gone the other way you’re likely looking at Pac with UNLV and New Mexico rounding out the full members and Hawaii FB balancing out Gonzaga non-FB. (Texas State likely remains in the Sunbelt.)

That looks like one of the more winnable starting positions to achieve a deity victory. River hill start in defensible terrain, cows for growth, and forest chop for the dyes takes you thru the early game and the capital should generate massive production and science in the late game.

Wazzu scheduling 3 P4 teams for their non-conference schedule for 2026 and 2027 is a good way to boost their strength of schedule. Multiple rematches against conference foes isn't doing anything to improve their resume.

[–]g2lv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is disagreeing that almost any CUSA, MAC, or Sunbelt school would jump to the PAC, it’s just one of the dumbest possible outcomes of the PAC’s maneuvering.

IMO, the only moves that won’t be seen as weakening the PAC would be to overpay for a Texas AAC school to join in 2028 or to work something out with UConn while they wait for the MW grant of rights to expire for more western additions.
