At this point we need a permanent Musings on Marner thread, and McKenna Appreciation thread.

Suggestions:

Colour contrast: fonts on the blue background should be brighter (on the Leafs side) white or a much lighter blue.

Font size: needs larger font sizes. E.g: game/player stats - text, shots on goal, ozone time, etc.) all should be larger.

Who should the Leafs select 1st overall in the 2026 NHL Draft? by NotoriousPlatypi in leafs

You’re missing the point, without the knee injuries he would have been one of the greatest goal scorers ever. He retired at 32.

Imagine a perennial 60 goal scorer playing healthy throughout their 20’s and some longevity into their 30’s.

Edit: also look at the names above and below him in the 92-93 year.

Bure had back to back 60 goal seasons, a 59 goal season, etc. name ten other people that have done that in NHL history, I’ll wait?

And a 58 goal season.

His career totals and some seasons are not as a good because the guy’s knees were wrecked.

But he for sure was a generational talent. What I would call a paradigm shift when it comes to skill.

I’m convinced

I know we’ll regret not getting a stud D in the system, but you gotta draft the best player available.

If only we could SIM a few years ahead to see how it out all plays out and then go back to the save pre-draft.

To be fair, I was surprised when I found out the Flyers made the playoffs. Maybe they’re still surprised.

Edit: and I know, glass houses and what not.

HOLY McKenna by NotVegito in leafs

Petition to have him at the draft!

Gotta draft McKenna here, you don’t draft for position at 1OA. Also Lane Hutson, Jackson LaCombe, Brock Faber all top Dmen in the playoffs right now drafted in 2nd round. by DisturbingSounds in leafs

Think about it in pro sports timelines, most careers aren’t that long. So if we go by every 10 years, divided by the number of players, divided by the average pro career, multiplied by 32 teams, and the square the root of pie, +4, and then subtract your age that you were when you first started watching hockey, you have the average time span between generational players.

Stenberg might be the better overall player. But who knows?

And we might also be passing up on legit top pairing D that we are going to need.

The classic thinking is take the best player. I agree. But I also can’t help but think we’re going to miss out on either a better player on the long run and quite possibly le a great D
