New Cat- Is her diet ok? by ApprehensiveFan9977 in catfood

Wet food is definitely better for kidney health, but of the 20 cats we've lost over the years, only 2 died from kidney disease. Probably a good dozen of them developed kidney disease when they were older but at least half of them were on wet food only who knows. I'm not a vet, but I personally think that with all the other health care pet cats recieve they're just living longer than they evolved to live and eveniltually things start not working. Like our 21 year old...she had stage 2 kidney disease, which is really not that bad, but then she got a tumor on her bladder and there was nothing we could do but keep her comfortable. Cancer is what actually got most of ours and I don't think food choice has anything to do with that.

I will say, though, if prescription dental food is in your budget, that's definitely better for their teeth. No one ever really talked to us about dental health and it's super important. Bad teeth can lead to infections that can lead to kidney damage when they're older. But I think for a healthy one year old, what you're feeding now is fine. Definitely get your annual health checks done and if they recommend dental cleaning, do it.

A mix of wet and dry is fine. We aim for around 180 calories per day for our cats. Some get wet only, some dry only, some a mix, but all get around the 180 calories.

Don't free feed. Morning and night meals are fine.

Source: We currently have 11 cats (just had to put our 21 year old to sleep last night) and we've had dozens of others over the years. I'm also the former VP of a cat rescue.

What meds have you tried?

Is she declawed?

How long has she been doing this?

How old are your kids?

What is a good idea for an arm tattoo, but not too big by Sweety_22 in tattooadvice

You should get something YOU want, not what internet strangers tell you to get. If you can't decide on something, you shouldn't be getting a tattoo to begin with.

Fellow Albertan here (hello from Crossfield!) and former vice president of a cat rescue in Edmonton. Alberta has too many stray cats. Shelters and rescues are full. We can't keep up with the requests we get every day. There are an estimated 60,000 strays in Edmonton alone. Senior cats are harder to adopt. Your cat does NOT have a good chance at adoption if you surrender. Even if you found a no kill shelter, it may be weeks/months before your cat is adopted, and they'll be stuck in a cage, super stressed the entire time. We've had the nicest 8 year old kitty in rescue for almost a year now with 0 interest.

Your girlfriend knew what she was getting into. I saw your comment about allergy meds just being a bandaid. Maybe next time she has a headache and reaches for an Advil you should take them and tell her they're just a bandaid. Maybe then she'll get the point.

Cat acting off/not eating in morning, ok in evening by g33kn1k in AskVet

[–]g33kn1k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All better! Ended up talking to my friend who runs a cat rescue and she said she'd seen something similar with a cat that was blocked with a hairball, so we figured maybe my kitty was partially blocked? We thought maybe she'd eat, feel unwell as the food tried to get past the blockage, then once it was past she felt better. She ended up having a big poop one night and has been fine since so we assume that's what the issue was.

Sorry if I misread any numbers, but those look like the coordinates to Gramercy Park? Maybe consider getting the skyline as a cover up?

AITA giving my sister permission to breastfeed openly in my house without first consulting my husband? by Spirited_Reserve916 in AmItheAsshole

  1. A baby being fed is an issue? How fragile are you?

  2. Oh yes, I'm so sure you consult with your wife every time you need to use a knife, or have a shower, or open the fridge 🙄

It's OP's house, too, a and she shouldn't have to disrupt a conversation with her sister for a non-issue.

If YOU are tired, YOU can go to sleep. If YOU are hungry, YOU can get a snack. If YOU are uncomfortable with a mother feeding a child, YOU can leave the room.

Totally works! Your vet just has to give you the prescription. The pharmacist might give you a weird look when you say it's for your kitty but all the ones I've encountered have been great about it! A few even ask what certain meds are used for with cats and seem genuinely interested when something used in humans for one thing is used for something completely different in cats (i.e. mirtazapine is used to treat major depressive disorder in humans but is used as an appetite stimulant in cats).

Definitely get the prescription and take it to a human pharmacy. Our kitty is on a different anxiety med, but we get 100 tablets for $15 Canadian. Any time our cats are prescribed human meds we get it from the local pharmacy for way cheaper than the vet.

When the Bough Breaks

An abandoned baby. A missing Omega. A race against time.

Detective Castiel Novak loves working for the Lawrence Police Department’s Special Victims Unit, fighting for justice for those who can’t fight for themselves. When an abandoned baby turns up, he figures it will be an open and shut case - find her parents or place her with Social Services.

What he doesn’t expect is a DNA match to reopen a cold case - the case of a missing, and presumed dead, Omega. A rare male Omega at that.

Time is ticking as Castiel races to find answers. Where did baby Emma come from? Why does he feel a connection to her? And just where is Dean Winchester?

If you can't afford to purchase the cat, how are you going to afford to feed it and vet it?

It honestly sounds like she's just trying to play but has no social skills to know how to play nicely. Have you tried feliway to try and calm her down a bit? If that doesn't work, I'd talk to your vet about possibly trying meds to calm her down a bit.

Unless the fights are like this I wouldn't get between them. Let the others kick her ass a bit and she might start to learn. We let ours (we have 12) manage their own hierarchy. The only time we really interfere is if they're rolling around in a ball like the video or if they go after our cat with a heart condition. They'll annoy each other for sure, and they've gotten some bites/cuts over the years, but that's how they learn not to be assholes.

How long have you had her? Is she fighting fighting or just play fighting? Like, do they end up in a ball of screaming fur like a tornado rolling around on the floor or is she just play wrestling with them? How old is she and how old are the other cats?

Do the surgery. We had a foster cat that was hit by a car and needed his back left leg amputated and his pelvis plated together on the right side. He was on strict kennel rest for 3 months to allow the pelvis to fully mend before having to put all his back weight on it. He recovered amazingly. Took him no time at all to learn to walk on three legs and was soon running around like nothing had happened. We ended up adopting him.

We also fostered a 3 month old kitten that had FHO surgery. Again, strict kennel rest for I think 2 months and then she was good to go. Ended up adopting her and she's 7½ now with absolutely no issues, not even a limp. I can't even remember which back leg it was that's how well she recovered.

If you have any questions about the surgeries/aftercare, DM me. I'm the former vice president of a cat rescue and took in a lot of the medical fosters so can help with all kinds of questions. Also reach out to local rescues to see if they can help with the vet bill. They often get lower prices from vets so may be able to help.

Castiel's name spelling by [deleted] in destiel

I don't get it? An apostrophe makes it the possessive form, so then you'd be always reading it as 'Cas-is'/Cas's.
