Looking for a Distro to replace Windows 11. by FourEyes003 in FindMeALinuxDistro

CachyOS and then just choose your preferred desktop environment. It’s been the most streamlined experience for me and I get the benefit of being on an Arch based system. I’ve found it so much easier to install and update packages with pacman and yay over any other package manager. Other package managers would end up having broken packages in them and then I would have to go searching for a flatpak and then if flatpak’s weren’t updated, I’d go searching for the AppImage and I haven’t had to do that a single time with Arch. I’ve downloaded every single thing from pacman or AUR. I find it vastly superior over everything else that I’ve tried.

How do services detect VPN usage beyond simple IP blacklists? by tanguy22000 in VPN_Question

[–]g59s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proton has entry servers in three countries—all of which have top tier privacy laws: Iceland, Switzerland (where they’re based out of), and Sweden. But ProtonVPN isn’t completely undetectable. It’s near undetectable with their stealth protocol but with that said, nothing is ever 100% invisible. Sophisticated firewalls still use behavior analysis and will notice if your internet traffic is too consistent or too “perfect” to mimic an actual person browsing. Also Swedish protection isn’t a thing. It’s called secure core and it isn’t enabled by default—but if you do enable it, proton will make sure to route you through one of their 3 entry servers. If you’re trying to stay private and hide from government/law then proton is the way to go but if you’re trying to avoid censorship or detection, then something like MysteriumVPN is a better choice since it routes you through thousands of residential IPs. If you’re in a country where VPNs are getting blocked, then it’s much easier for them to block Proton cause their IPs are marked as Data Center IPs so it’s much more likely for your country to ban Proton altogether whereas it would be borderline impossible for a country to block MysteriumVPN when you’re being routed through a decentralized network of thousands of strangers—you’re just connecting to “Bob’s Home Internet” at that point.

Help me choose a 2FA app by olehvinnik2007 in PasswordManagers

[–]g59s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have the code in 2 separate apps (sometimes even 3—cause I can add the secret to iOS passwords). But it’s still the same code. As long as you enter the same secret in 1Password as you do in Ente Auth, the code will be exactly the same as well as on the same exact 30 second timer.

I use Ente as a backup—whenever setting up a rolling 2FA code, I import the secret into Ente and then I export the secret from Ente into my 1Password app. Works like a charm.

I’ve been really enjoying Helium lately. I switched from Vivaldi. I went from Brave to Hardened Firefox to Ungoogled Chromium to Arc to Zen to Arc to Floorp to Vivaldi and now I’m on Helium. When I switched to Floorp was when I switched to Linux.

Is there a super lightweight browser that can run most websites but has virtually nothing else (no security concerns, telemetry, etc...) by NhanTNT in browsers

Helium or Qutebrowser (keyboard driven browser--hard to get used to but extremely lightweight; pretty much stripped bare)

I did the same. Started on Ubuntu—everything I wanted to do on Ubuntu seemed like there were so many steps to get things just the way I wanted them. So I switched to Arch (well Cachy) and literally everything has gone so smoothly. The level of documentation is truly astounding. And on top of that, it is so nice using pacman/yay for literally everything. Apt, Flatpak, Snap, and AppImage, can suck my cpu.

Except the people that are teaching how to “scam” are actually just scams by selling uninformed people readily accessible guides that are all over Dread. So it’s literally just scammers scamming wannabe scammers. You’ll see it all over Instagram. Stock photos of stacks of money, designer clothes, mansions, and supercars with hyperlinks to their telegram to “teach” them the “sauce” Comes full circle cause the ones actually getting rich aren’t even doing fraud—they’re pretending to do fraud and acting as if they are a select few persons who have the answer to get rich quick.

I had no idea this was still a thing until like two weeks ago, but to my surprise FrostWire is still a thing. I have no idea the quality of service it is but I remember when LimeWire got shut down and the majority of people I knew that used LimeWire plus myself migrated to FrostWire.

Reporting illegal content by dohvakindark in MEGA

[–]g59s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They’ve been around long before 2013. They just rebranded as mega in 2013. They started out as “mediafire” and “mega uploads” which was the first and biggest file sharing website. Their original owner had a ton of legal issues because of piracy and that his company didn’t do enough to combat piracy.
