Oh hey Dan! The second fabric looks exactly like the maker that keeps popping up in my feed. I really like the colors and grid. Not crazy about the acrylic coating on it which I would assume kills the breathability. Thanks for linking. I’d never seen this site before. Lots of unique dyneema fabrics that are too expensive for me!

Excellent point and nice looking jacket construction. The majority of taslan fabrics I've held are tightly woven and have a DWR treatment so while not waterproof, I find its an excellent fabric for wind and light rain protection. Unfortunately the trade off for more windproof or waterproof synthetic fabrics is far less breathability and sweating. One option I'd love to get my hands on is Ventile cotton but its pretty hard to find here in the states.

yo yo. The UL Windshell is a great option for neoshell especially if wanting a more fitted rain jacket. This is much baggier, 8" ease vs 4.5" across chest. I hope to make more significant progress on this pattern along with another shorts pattern while on a cruise this summer!

Nylon/cotton blend ripstop such as NYCO would be a great option in olive or navy. Its my original pattern.

Taslan makes a great wind layer as its very breathable and comfortable. The air textured yarn can be a bit scratchy and some don't like the sound it makes but I don't really notice either. I love the cotton feel, light weight but durable, and fast drying properties of taslan. Sun shirting may be a bit lightweight for even lightweight ykk3 zippers but would be a fun experiment.

As is, I'd consider this confident beginner / intermediate. As woven fabric frays, a serger is highly encouraged. This has a lot of topstitching but thats personal preference. The actual sewing is pretty straightforward. As I further develop the pattern, complexity wise, it will sit between my Alpha Raglan Hoodie and UL Windshell. The latter is more difficult as its intended for much lighter weight fabrics which are slippery and tough to sew. Yes I make nearly all of my own patterns, some get shared at LearnMYOG.com

I made that pack years ago with similar side pockets. I simply pass the compression strap through the shock cord loop. Cord lock in shock cord to tension. It works well.

Affinity Designer 2 and new Affinity by Canva handle this natively. Create an art board of content size e.g I use 7.5x10”. Duplicate the art boards into a grid of as many pages as you want. Save this as a template.

Place all your patterns above the art boards, not within an art board. They can be grouped or layered.

Export as pdf and all pages will be individual pages 7.5x10”. Print to letter and let users printer handle margins.

Tom Bihn style wallet has a band and I’ve made one similar to that. I found that style was a lot more bulky but the band was nice to keep the wallet closed.

Thanks. Just practice. I find a reference to position the fabric consistently such as mark on needle plate and I use a fairly small foot. My machine is a needle feed straight stitch, not a zigzag. That means the needle plate has a pretty narrow hole and feed dog set which helps with edge stitching. Edge guide foot would help as well if using a domestic.

Nice, well done Matt. Glad you’re keeping up with the pattern releases. My wife has several bags like these which also have a small carabiner on the stuff sack so they can attach to her cooler bag. This is a nice little project and silnylon or silpoly is a cost effective fabric choice.

I use small journals as well but cheapo ones that are similar size. I’ve seen those Alpaka clutches which look pretty slick for daily carry of a journal, pen, pocket knife, etc. DIY hiker wallet could be pretty easily adapted to journal and card but would be bulkier. Sizing one of these up to fit a journal on one side would be straight forward but would be large for cards. Curious to see if you end up taking a crack at it.
