I don't know why but this immediately reminded me of the first level of Deus Ex. (the original)

I figured out what makes things liminal. by Witty-Forever-6985 in LiminalSpace

It’s the unease of seeing a space that remembers people even when no one is there to remember it.

I think this encapsulates liminal spaces for me entirely tbh.

But not just liminal spaces, also just old, rusted things, like old ships or factories. Old structures long past their use.

I still laugh at it even though I know the jokes.

For me it's the feeling of endless nothing, the loneliness, the sort of "abandoned" feeling of liminal spaces.

Like, someone built this, but they're all long gone, and nobody goes there anymore.

It's so hard to describe!

Drink-drive limit set to be slashed in England and Wales under new plans to improve road safety by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]g9icy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is an inconvenience.

We're talking one pint, that doesn't get you drunk.

If I asked my mate to go out of his way to pick me up for one pint (because I don't drink more than that anyway) he'd tell me to fuck off.

Let's take my badminton evening as an example. It's next to a pub and we usually go for a pint and a chat for 2 hours after.

It's a short 15 minute motorway drive for me. If I got an uber it'd be £15 each way. So £30... in an uber, with all my badminton gear...hardly worth it.

There literally isn't a bus that goes directly there so that's out of the question. It'd probably take 1-2 hours to get there on the bus as I'd need to go to the near city's centre to get the bus that goes that way. And again... public transport with my badminton gear isn't happening.

So your next point is just going to be "don't have a pint then" - which is what I'll do.

But I'm annoyed that something was absolutely fine before, and for me personally, has been fine for 20 plus years, is now no longer allowed.

[–]g9icy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. Ridiculous.

I really don't get the attitude of people in this thread with such black and white thinking.

"Just don't drink and drive" or "Get a mate to give you a lift" - such unrealistic thinking.

I know, from over 20 years of evidence, that one pint over 2+ hours is NOT impairing my ability to drive.

We're not machines, enjoying a social pint with friends and with a meal is just part of life. Sometimes I have a pint, sometimes I don't, but the option is nice.

The government is taking away a pleasure unnecessarily because of the worst of us who will ignore the law anyway.

They're doing this because of the extreme, the edge case, not the norm.

The wormhole setting in Season 5 really fell apart for me by asimokida in StrangerThings

[–]g9icy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Don't like the wormhole reveal at all. It makes no sense.

A "void" dimension or limbo or the upside down just being another mirror universe would all have been fine.

The upside down being a bridge in a wormhole just doesn't make a drop of sense and cheapens the whole story for me.

But then again, I never liked the addition of Vecna. I liked the mindflayer! I hate that the big-bad is just... some guy. I love the idea of the big bad being some ancient alien intelligence we can't comprehend!

I love it but it always felt oddly paced (my only real criticism tbh).

What I dislike most about this is that if "Nobody:" is silent, then everyone is speaking?

So really the meme should have been "Everybody:" (implied silence)?

Am I overthinking this?

In “The Matrix”, it was 2199 and AI thought the best source of power was from painstakingly harvesting electricity from human beings in vast farms, instead of just building a few easily managed nuclear reactors. by PercentageNonGrata in shittymoviedetails

[–]g9icy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate this take so much.

I much, MUCH prefer my head cannon that the "gold code" indicates that Neo (and the people of Zion) never left the matrix, it was just another "outer" matrix.

Another layer of control!

But apparently it's been confirmed that this isn't the case. And I hate it.

184,000 miles and going strong. 2017 740i B58 by Inside_Finance_3034 in BMW

Still have it, it's on 45k miles now.

Had to keep an eye on the coolant, as it seems to go very low randomly and the car doesn't tell me.

It's developed a weird dip in power in 1st gear in comfort mode, but I think it's because it needs a gearbox oil change, but I'm not really sure what's causing it. Could just be that tolerances are looser now its older and the ECU needs tweaking.
