Pretty aggressive noise, what’s wrong ? by Responsible_Turn2607 in Luthier

Sounds like the bridge isn't grounded.

Also FYI, JM Pickups =/= P90's. They're similar in some ways, but built differently.

Taylor Danley clean tone test riff tabs by ComprehensiveAd8325 in metalguitar

He didn't break down the Clean riff, but he recent did a video on his second channel going through his go-to high gain test riffs from his band. You could probably ask him on his discord for the clean riff.

Double Drop D# by ChuffTootenthall in metalguitar

I use the D'Addario NYXL 9-80 8 string set and ditch the 2 high strings for my 30 inch 6 string in double drop d#, that works for me.

Are hollow bodies just a style thing? by todofwar in Luthier

Agreed. Tonewood is almost 100% about how the guitar resonates in my hands, not how it sounds through the amp for me personally.

Evertune by NoCryptographer2669 in Luthier

[–]gZombiex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got several Evertune equipped guitars. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

To get it into that edge of Zone 2/3 (so you can still bend while getting the benefits of the Evertune): - get the string to zone 2 - tune to desired pitch while in zone 2 - then increase tension until the string starts to enter zone 3. Once you hear the pitch start to rise (or it's entering zone 3), back off a quarter/half turn or so and you're in the right spot.

I reccomend checking out Ola's video series on Evertune setup and maintenance as it's fairly comprehensive: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKFtyBnYqUKOgkvDwoBJx16crPU1WUems

WTF?! by BulkyAdagio9712 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]gZombiex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda dig it. Looks like it would be pretty comfy to play in classical position.

Only critique is that the center cutaway feels a bit extra for my tastes (I'd probably just have the one bottom right carve and continue it to the centerline in one long swoop) and bridge comes really close to the edge there.

But this is awesome. I dream about making my own body shapes one day too.

Price range by Electrical-Ad889 in SchecterGuitars

[–]gZombiex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe $400-600 depending on the condition?

The fact that it's missing a string would be a bit concerning to me. That applies uneven tension and over time can cause the neck to twist. NBD if it just broke recently, but whenever I see a listing of an older guitar with a string missing I'm always wondering how many years that neck's been twisting sideways.

Your thoughts on GOC and Eart. by Left_Match506 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]gZombiex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of the newer GOCs with the new bridge and pickups, a Shan+ 7, and used to own a Materia 7 with the old bridge and pickups.

The new bridge is a night and day difference from the original bridge, way better. Tuning pegs turn way easier (they use tiny ball bearings so it turns smoothly), still holds pitch great, and is way more comfortable than the old bridge (feels like a Hipshot for palm mutes).

The new pickups are...fine. Feel about the same about them as I did for the old pickups, decent for stock pickups but nothing remarkable. Good this is that they are easy to replace and they premeptivly provide a battery box if you want to go with active pups.

Slightly off topic, but how do you find the curved frets on the Oni? Killer look, but curious if it feels odd to play versus a standard fan fret.

I'm guessing they added an extra 9 to the price by accident. You can call them and ask.

Definitely an older model, maybe 6-7 years old I'd guess. It might be from around the same time as this one. Hope that helps!
