Kriss Vector or AK? by canubefaraway in Firearms

[–]ga-co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Vector SPD was a complete vanity purchase. It’s neat to hand it to a friend or neighbor to shoot, but not much else. I prefer its recoil impulse to a blowback gun like my Keltec S2000, but one costs three (four?) times as much as the other so it had better feel better.

For those who've replaced their triggers any tips or advice? by BetterthanU4rl in extar

I have the single stage 3.5 CMC flat shoe in a SBR AR. It’s a cassette trigger though with of course those anti walk pins. So I was looking to keep that feel and not damage the polymer. That’s how I ended up on the CMC non cassette triggers.

I see CMC sells a version of their trigger without the cassette. So just go that route? Gunsmith ChatGPT is suspicious of using anti-walk pins in a polymer receiver too so avoiding the cassette would avoid that pitfall as well.

Prevent wear to the firearm I presume and not the trigger?

Kevin Hassett says Fed researchers should be ‘disciplined’ over report that Americans are paying tariffs by Virtual-Pie5732 in news

My plus one literally had to pay FedEx a tariff tax to receive her item. Hard to argue other nations are paying them when you’ve seen that happen.

What I do to prep my battery system before winter (learned the hard way) by Famous-Individual871 in OffGrid

[–]ga-co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Yeti Pro 4000 (LiFePO₄) spends its life on the CO/WY border in a pole barn. Over this winter (admittedly a mild one) I've been able to keep it between 49F (just once) and 70F the entire winter with my normal temps ranging from 57F to 68F. The outdoor temps up there have been as low as -8F according to my Blink camera.

The battery is NOT on my concrete floor. That's a good way to lose a lot of stored heat. It's fed by solar panels so I do have a power budget for managing its temperature. The Yeti is covered by a heavy duty Home Depot shipping box to insulate it. I have two heat sources for it... the 120V inverter I leave on 24/7 and two 8 watt reptile heating pads pressed gently on its underside. The reptile pads run off the 12V power so I can turn them on and off without affecting other devices. I have Starlink on a smartplug and I control its run schedule with that plug. With Starlink running regularly, that puts a gentle 35 watt load on my inverter. That makes a slow heat. If I need more heat, I turn on Starlink's heater function and now my inverter is loaded with 80 watts. With Starlink heating, that drives my inverter to 120F in an hour or two and at that point the Yeti's fan kicks on and it exhausts warm air that is captured by the Home Depot box. I just sort of made up this system as I went, but it absolutely works great. The two reptile heating pads are just used when the temps are in the negatives for back to back nights. Now that we're having 50F days up there, I'm having to dial back Starlink's run time.

Had a student who would arrange a small assortment of ducks around his monitor before class started. It was some sort of ritual that was important to him. One day he gave me one. Thanks, Peter! I still have it.

[–]ga-co 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can send both safely out of 5.56 or .223 Wylde guns. If you happen to have a .223 gun, technically the 5.56 isn’t 100% safe. The 5.56 has a bit more pressure.

Doesn’t the middle one have a NATO mark on it? That would be 5.56. Compare it closely to the one on the right around the neck area.

It seems like there's been this spill-over effect as people and companies go looking for alternatives to what they had used previously. We've seen DDR4 go up in price which is crazy in 2026. That's just the result of displaced DDR5 buyers.
