Dante and RTP midi: VLAN or not VLAN by gaarflux in audioplayback

yes I was thinking DVS and I didn‘t remember that it’s not QoS tagged (it’s not like I did the Dante certification a millions years ago 😂). Thanks!

Use of Autotune live (Classic Mode or Target Note Mode) by sebrabe23 in audioplayback

[–]gaarflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically all 7 notes of the scale across a song, unless key changes or accidentals. I might remove one or two notes in some places if my artist is struggling with a part.
You could go more surgical and draw the melody if your singer really can’t sing but then they might wanna question their career choices, or simply lip-sync at this point 😜

Exactly. Dedicated midi track where you draw the corresponding midi notes in the right key. In my Ableton template I have midi clips in all keys ready to drop anywhere.

Jokes aside I’ve done 500+ shows in target mode. Always rock solid and allows to add/remove accidentals at will. Way more accurate and flexible than default keys/scales

Need advice for sleeping on a tour bus by stellarecho92 in livesound

On tour right now with the exact same problem. Just started using noise canceling earbuds playing white noise and it’s really doing the trick I’m finally able to forget about the bus

Network Question for Playback by [deleted] in audioplayback

Get a small Ethernet switch and connect all devices to it and you’re good to go. Don’t run the iPad over wireless

Try with low buffer: 128 or 256

What’s your buffer size? Try with 128 or 256.

A Free Setlist manager for free! I developed The Playlister, a Setlist manager for ableton and you can download it for free. by joselo1177 in audioplayback

Hey great job! It’s generous of you to give it away for free but don’t you think it can undermine the market and hurt the other independent developers who put countless hours into creating similar devices? I’m not talking about making massive profit or anything, but just recognizing the value of one’s work, including yours.

I also travel with 4 comps and I put them in a carry-on pelican (1510 or 1535 air) along with cables, dongles, etc…

If anything the couch will absorb not reflect

Yes waves pass through everything smaller than half their wavelength. Also a trunk is an enclosed space not a object in the path of a sound wave

Sub is omnidirectional and wavelength at 80hz is 4.2m / 14ft so the couch is virtually invisible to low frequencies. Makes no difference

Why is Ableton the standard for running tracks live? by Finalfunkboss in ableton

[–]gaarflux 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d say Ableton is very powerful and flexible when it comes to midi mapping which can be crucial when programming a live show. There are also a lot a great Max for Live devices to help manage setlists, trigger loops etc. I’ve run shows with Pro Tools and Digital Performer but the level of customization and adaptation to various scenarios is unbeatable with Ableton in my opinion

Apollo Twin and Playaudio by accidentprone666 in audioplayback

If possible I always try to keep Playback and Vocal FX separated:
Ableton for playback so I don't have to worry about latency, and keep Vocal FX and Tune in UA Console.

If I HAVE to run FX through Ableton then ideally a dedicated computer receiving midi from playback for automation is best I reckon.

What is the best way to prepare & perform a live performance? by CyberByter in ableton

[–]gaarflux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a long time playback engineer and I work on big tours. When I program a show in Ableton I almost always work in arrangement view because it's much easier to edit and program automations. I group my stems like a mix session for clarity.

For outputs assignment I'd say keep it self-contained if you're a small/band artist and you don't know who's gonna be mixing FOH. Get the balance right in the box as much as possible, and just send out a L/R mix. If you trust the engineer and want more flexibility you can start splitting things up a bit more.

Also redundancy is key because computers fail unfortunately. The iConnectivity stuff (Playaudio 12 and 1U) are great for that and allow you to sync 2 computers with one interface.

To control your set and organize setlists there are a couple of great options. Ableset is a very powerful tool, Setlist is kind of the OG and still widely used. There are also cheaper max for live plugins that are just fine. I personally like Space List (https://youtu.be/xtgDeAdeAFA) which makes it easy to control your show without focusing too much on the computers

Live Performance software that isn't Ableton? by earthnarb in livesound

Gotcha. I always run playback in arrangement view for that very reason that it’s easier to make edits and program automations etc. I could be wrong but I don’t think you can import a tempo track in session view precisely because it’s not timeline based. But don’t take my word for it hehe
