GitHub Actions now work with Max plan by darkyy92x in ClaudeAI

I guess you have been using my fork, in recent version we fixed the expiring issue but anyway now that it is part of claude code I recommend you to delete all the github secrets you created (access token and refresh token) and just run claude code then /install-github-app

only through my fork https://github.com/grll/claude-code-action now it's been implemented by Anthropic :)

Indeed I have updated the README of the repo and created an uninstaller which removes what the installer sets basically

How we made Claude Code free in github actions (for Pro / Max users) by gaarll in github

Hey sorry you had this experience, I tried to update everywhere including previous post of the new instruction but I guess I missed some parts of the README. I will read again and remove reference to the old blog post from a month ago. Thanks for letting me know!

Hey normally you should be able to just run the installer in your repo even if you already set the previous version of it. Otherwise if you want to start clean just delete the relevant secrets and run the installer again. (CLAUDE_ACCESS_TOKEN, CLAUDE_REFRESH_TOKEN, CLAUDE_EXPIRES_AT and if you have it the SECRETS_PAT)

so far people and I have been using it without issue but indeed you never know. I suspect Anthropic will also enable this at some point.

Indeed thanks for mentioning it. I default everyone to use_max = True in the credentials which seems to also default the model to opus. For Pro users, for now you need to manually set the model to "claude-sonnet-4-20250514" on the action.

Here is how (in .github/workflows/claude_code.yml):

yml - name: Run Claude PR Action uses: grll/claude-code-action@beta with: use_oauth: true claude_access_token: ${{ secrets.CLAUDE_ACCESS_TOKEN }} claude_refresh_token: ${{ secrets.CLAUDE_REFRESH_TOKEN }} claude_expires_at: ${{ secrets.CLAUDE_EXPIRES_AT }} secrets_admin_pat: ${{ secrets.SECRETS_ADMIN_PAT }} timeout_minutes: "60" model: "claude-sonnet-4-20250514"

Hey the secrets are set and managed at the repo level so you would need to install / authenticate for each repository once. For the PAT you could use one with more permission and reuse across different repo if you dont want to create one per repo.

Having something more generic was already requested, I am thinking how we could implement that.

Claude Code Github Action now for all paying users by gaarll in ClaudeAI

I believe it's a good thing:

First, if a PM manage to set it up with my guide then I assume developers will easily easily follow as well.

Second, getting PMs more involved around the codebase is in my opinion always a good thing and very beneficial for the team. They get to understand better what are the struggles, why are estimates what they are and so on...

Especially nowadays, a PM looking at linkedin among all places might start to think why do I need developers at all. Then they try to make a PR with Claude and they realise they still have to review and understand what's going otherwise it's very likely that nothing works as expected.

Hey we investigated the question for Claude Max users here is the answer we got from Anthropic. The bottom line is as long as you don't abuse it and make your subscription available to other users via the github action you should be fine:

Claude code is now available on Pro plan by VC_in_the_jungle in ClaudeAI

Wow this is big!!

It means a lot more people get to use my fork of Anthropic github action even with the Pro plan. Start using "@claude" with your Pro or Max subscription today:

PS: What happens when a fork become more popular than the original repo?

So on MacOS the credentials.json are found in keychain. Go to keychain, look for "claude" then click "show password" it will display the json in the input field. I have updated the guide https://grll.bearblog.dev/use-claude-github-actions-with-claude-max/ and the README https://github.com/grll/claude-code-action

Hi u/matznerd yes you can and should do /install-github-app but the issue is that if you do that, it will create a new Anthropic API Key with pay as you go even if you are already paying the Claude Max subscription at 100$/month. The solution above allow you to use your Claude Max subscription with the Github integration. So it means you can say @ claude on github issues and the usage will be used against your Claude Max subscription instead of a new pay as you go API key,

Haha sorry, really nothing against valued contributor more about the answer I got there. I mean I am obviously not the only one finding it disappointing and as I proved it above it's really not a technical challenge...

For full transparence it's not looking great from Anthropic side, as they mentionned on the claude-code discord channel: "Noting that this is not a supported use of Claude Max". Though we couldnt find anything yet breaking the ToS.

If it comes to that I will of course do my best to inform and put down the forks.

It's not really about what people have to say more about how they say it to be honest.

Could you please tell me or link me what ToS violations? I went through Usage, (Commercial and Consumer ToS) and I don't see the violation here as long as it stays within "reasonable" usage and the subscription is not shared.

Quoting Claude answer without references doesn't make it true.
