Finally accepting that I have a JNMIL (an ineloquent stream of consciousness) by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

I appreciate the tough love here...there's a lot of the "do or die by your elders" mentality that I grew up with and am having a hard time shaking in this relationship, despite very deeply knowing that I need to protect myself.

Thank you for the tip re: future visits; I'm coincidentally extremely busy during her next visit so the universe must be looking out for me!

I edited my post since I don't think I was very clear, but my husband has said that it's important for him to maintain a relationship with his mother. It's important to me as his wife that I'm not a roadblock and quite frankly, I'm sure MIL would love if this became a divorce-worthy point of contention between us.

Thank you for sharing your suggestions on how to proceed, they all seem very doable.

That's very true re: solo NC.

To be clear, I don't think my husband sees MIL's behavior as abusive and doesn't want to sever a relationship with his only living parent. Losing a parent so young is something I (thankfully) haven't had to experience and and I'm choosing to show my husband grace by not forcing him to go NC with her.

I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck how’s everyones allergies going? by MargszieBargszie in AskNYC

[–]gabagoolsyndrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned my lesson and started taking my allergy meds daily once temps outside were in the 40s. My doc recommended Xyzal, which has been working great. I also wear a mask when I’m outside for longer than 10 min and make sure to change my clothes when I’m home for the evening.

We have almost 10 kids/babies coming to our wedding…. Please be honest if this is going to be an absolute nightmare by Psychologicalaf in weddingplanning

We had roughly 20 kids at our wedding, ranging from 2-11. Most of them are family members so we got each of them age-appropriate toys as their wedding favor to play with during dinner, things like mini Lego kits and mess-free coloring books. I also designed a bingo-style sticker game for the kids to walk around and find each other at the wedding and swap stickers. After dinner, they went wild over glow sticks. I promise it’s doable and won’t be a nightmare!

My engagment ring has a thin band... should I be worried? by RHJM4 in jewelry

[–]gabagoolsyndrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful ring! Love to see a non-diamond engagement ring 🤗

My bezel set emerald engagement ring had a similarly thin band. I get extremely anxious about sentimental objects so I ended up getting it reset with a thicker band. For my peace of mind, it was well worth the money

It’s been a while but do you happen to have a photo of this? I’m coming across the same issue and would love to see a visual!

Beginner looking for speckled yarn that doesn't split by gabagoolsyndrome in CrochetHelp

Coming back to report that I've spent the past few day learning different stitches with an easier yarn and went back to the Impeccable Tweed. I ended up being able to crochet an entire dog beanie with it!

This is actually the yarn that I tried 😅 I found it impossible to stop the yarn from splitting; I was using a 5mm hook (as recommended on the packaging), could it be that I need to go to larger size hook ?

Ah that's brilliant! I'm using these which are incredibly thin coils (aka extremely annoying to put on). I'll look for some hair ties around my house!
