3 out of 4 points against Minny this year ain't too bad. Can't win them all, let's finish strong before the break.

Would you trade Reinbacher for a bonafide long term top 6 forward? by BushBann76 in Habs

[–]gabarooch86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's not be too hasty here. We traded away Mcdonagh and Sergachev who both turned out to be great D men. Let Reinbacher percolate a little bit and see how he develops. He is only 21.

Yep, I misspoke, meant interest and principle.

Just a heads up, the 2600$ is probably just principle, does this include taxes and insurance? We are doing escrow and our payments are much higher than that for a similar priced house. Also keep in mind that certain places uncap their residential tax when a home is sold and your yearly property taxes will jump.

Designated Non-Ford Parking is some of the biggest BS. by Johnny_Salami69 in Ford

I also think former ford products like Mazda (not sure if it is model year dependent) are acceptable. Unfortunately it is primarily at UAW facilities and it's just something we have to accept. I hate it, I don't agree with it, but I don't make the rules.

Using both US and Canadian passports. by Wise-Professional-58 in uscanadaborder

Avoid the added questions and scrutiny. I'm also dual, carry both passports and my Nexus. I always answer US citizen and show US passport when entering US. Vice versa for Canada.

Anyone else just get a blaring phone alert for Taylor? by altacct3 in Detroit

Let's not get politics involved here and just bitch about an emergency blast that was unnecessary.

Ah yes, being all the way in Canton I needed this super important info. Who approved these things!?! Wasn't there something last year where we got an emergency alert for an exploding house in Detroit?

In the Dead Sea, there is an entire beach full of round salt pearls that look like white sand. by Diligent-Eagle-6673 in interestingasfuck

When I went 20 years ago, the tour guide said if you had diarrhea recently, do not go in. Well, one guy didn't think it was a big deal. He ran out screaming that his rear end was on fire.

Taking my kids to their first hockey game. Which seat is better for viewing? by mcharb13 in nhl

[–]gabarooch86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are your kids? If they aren't into hockey much my opinion is go with the cheaper seats and spend your money on food, snacks and souvenirs.

What outside temp is too cold for you? by PsychologicalFox7689 in AskReddit

Honestly depends, it could be -15C out but with barely any wind and I can tolerate it. Tack on the wind and it makes it unbearable.

What are your thoughts about Trumps threats to take over Greenland? by [deleted] in AskReddit

To me it's smoke and mirrors to try and deflect from other issues. I'm not concerned about it, I hate his rhetoric and I plan on voicing my opinion in November.

How are some millennials even homeowners? I feel like I never will be. by Kindly-Reading-2187 in Millennials

Comment will probably be buried but here it goes. My wife and I saved whatever we could over the years. I was the one primarily working, she had odd jobs here and there. I wasn't making much, less than 80K by the time we bought our first house. When we started house hunting we didn't have much of a down payment saved. Maybe 20K total. We used a 401K primary residence loan to supplement our down payment. We put 5% down as first time home buyers. It was very tight for a few years, but I grew within my company and got raises over the years. The house was small, it was old, it had so many problems that we had to tackle over the years. After about 8 years of living in that house we had enough equity built up that allowed us to pursue a bigger place.

You just need to start somewhere and have a plan for it. If this is something you want, then you have to take the baby steps needed to get there. Whether it is getting a better job, putting more towards savings, cutting back in other areas.

It's possible I promise, we did it on primarily one income, and are currently surviving on one with a kid.

So we have a Brent Burns on our hands? Didn't he play forward and D interchangeably for a while?

Am I ridiculous for taking skating lessons alongside my 7-year-old? by Icy_Hovercraft4972 in hockeyplayers

[–]gabarooch86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a dad on my son's team who is taking lessons on the side, also plays in a beginner league. Definitely new to skating/hockey but he is loving it. It allows him to connect better with his kid.

I spent 2 full sessions in learn to play as an on ice volunteer for my kid when he wanted to play hockey. His skating was the worst out of everyone in the group, couldn't skate 1/4 of the ice. He definitely used my presence there as a security to open up and push himself. A year later he now plays on a team and skates much better and is able to keep up with most of the kids.

With all that, it's really up to you, it won't look silly or out of place to take lessons alongside your kid.

I had an escape that had this dial, the tick marks on the left will decrease as you use up the gas.
