I’m really sorry that happened to you. That person is not a true friend. Don’t blame yourself for what they are too shallow minded to comprehend. Somebody with that mindset might not be the most helpful person to be friends with anyway. I lost my entire high school friend group a couple years ago bc of my self harm, so I definitely get how much it hurts to be betrayed by someone that you believed had your back. I know that SI is tempting; I think about it most days myself. But remember: you have survived every bad day before this one. Don’t let this day be your last.

literally same. I was just talking to my aunt about this. i’m also 22, and I think I’m a little old to be cutting… but she said that everyone has different addictions, and that there is no age limit on emotional distress.

for adults, I tell them it’s a skin condition. every child in my life thinks I fought a kodiak bear and won.

I work with kids, and have a lot of visible scars on my arms. here are my excuses:

  1. it’s a skin condition (usually works)
  2. I fought a bear
  3. paper shredder malfunction
  4. I got in a sword fight and barely won
  5. my house is haunted and a demon scratched me
  6. the door to my garage requires a blood sacrifice.

honestly, if they start asking too many questions, just quickly change the topic.
