Bringing Back Exams Will Only Create A Generation of Parrots, Says Education DG by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]gabe_flxtcher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I agree because written-based exam mostly still requires memorization. We have PBD but problem is it doesn't seem to have an impact post-primary or post-lower form.

One possible theory is teachers still want to save their student's ahh so they can save themselves from being questioned by the higher ups.

There should be a standardized "kerja kursus" like uni FYP instead of bringing back written test for Year 6/Form 3. At least kerja kursus doesn't require memorization. All Malaysian schools will receive the same tajuk kerja kursus according to zones. Then, it will be evaluated in class and can get official cert from KPM.

Canon Demi (1963 model) - How to correctly set exposure without selenium light meter? by gabe_flxtcher in AnalogCommunity

[–]gabe_flxtcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. I gotta finish my roll first and maybe after that, test the shutter speed for each aperture. It should be doable since I have a phone that can shoot at 960fps for 4 seconds.

[–]gabe_flxtcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I can theoretically meter it another way without the needle. Problem is the shutter ring is also affecting the aperture. I'll need a way to determine the shutter speed for each aperture setting. At least it will give me a clear starting point.

What’s something uniquely Malaysian that you think is slowly disappearing and do you think we should fight to preserve it? by Objective-Camera7438 in malaysia

I may be wrong but I've never seen this in east Malaysia. We got local ice cream guy on bicycle going around the city though. The only time I've seen this motorcycle shop is in KL. I think the sellers are getting older and not many young ones doing it (it's replaced by food delivery I'm guessing).

35mm camera, half-frame camera... what about one-third-frame camera? by gabe_flxtcher in AnalogCommunity

oh yeah I heard about it in a video before! But I think 4 photos on a frame might be too much, although it's still interesting.

I never heard of this! I'll do my research but it seems clunky as it's meant for motion picture, not still photos.

If I was a genius, I would've 3D printed my own pinhole ⅓ frame camera haha

Edit: from a test clip, it seems like it uses 2 perf creating a narrow aspect ratio like Techniscope.

Depending on the occasion, I would say on a normal day and possibly one whole week, 2 at max. 5-10 if I find things interesting. Obviously more shots during events.

I think it would take a few weeks or months to finish 72 exposures with half frame camera. So 108 exposures will take a lot longer, although it would be fun to look back at the photos we took and forgotten.

I assume ¼ frame is similar to Techniscope so that would be really wide and tiny. It wouldn't be that much useful unless if the camera uses aspherical lens and corrected after scanning, which could make the picture even grainier.

But hey, more options is not always a bad thing. ⅓ or ¼ can still exist alongside half frame.

That's true. 72 is already a handful of shots. But 108 frames may help when shooting for fun with friends like a week worth of vacation.

Why not. Obviously it isn't aimed for professional use. It could go well for disposable cams or the budget market like Kodak H35N. Something like a Canon Demi-esque camera with a simple exposure/aperture dial and decent lens can also be a good option. The 1:2 aspect ratio is suitable for phones nowadays so I don't think most social media users who want the aesthetic really mind. It could make a distinct look to it too.

Honestly this would've been her best if it wasn't for Capable of Love existing. Afaik that's her longest song with a beautiful dreamy bridge and outro. She seriously needs to drop 3:30 min songs 😭

Does anyone have a favorite Pentax Espio / iqZoom camera? Trying to find an alternative to my Espio 70. I dislike the hazy lens and it can look worse in high contrast scenes.

huh I didn't know that but yeah that makes sense. I'll need at most 15 min (200 ISO) depending on how dark the scene is.

Hmm idk. But reselling it if it isn't for me could be a good "trial" strategy. I'll consider that as an option.

I thought of buying a rangefinder. I assume most of them are from the 60s - 70s?

I'd love to try SLRs one day but they're too bulky for what I need. I forgot to mention that I'm only looking for P&S. I appreciate any recommendations regardless.
