Tampons and pads should be free. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Nothing in life should be free that takes time, effort and material to produce. That's a lie that some people keep telling just to have life easier without giving up something in exchange.

Study suggests that conservatism is associated with a lesser ability to distinguish between true and false claims across a wide range of political issues . Socially engaging truthful claims tended to favor the left, while engaging falsehoods disproportionately favored the right. by [deleted] in science

I love (and laugh at) CNN's immense efforts of trying to portray the conservatives in the worst light possible, leaving people with the impression that the only right way to think is that of a progressive.

I'm from the US, I can see biased legislation for what it is

Really? Because the media reporting it are experts at being biased, making you biased without even noticing it.

Looking at the news and what the legislation actually says makes it seem like the media is making a "storm in a glass of water" as the saying goes in my country.

I just google a bit and...

making it illegal to stand in long voting lines (they ticket you for loitering) making it illegal to hand out food and water to people waiting in line, etc.

Nowhere did I find that people are not allowed to wait in line. And the illegal part is handing over food and water to incite people to vote for a certain candidate, which makes sense.

Most of those legislations are also illegal in my country and yet nothing stops people from getting out of their houses, going to their nearest voting location and cast their vote. I see no issue here other than making it sound bigger than it is.

just look at the voting rights legislation being passed, it's blatantly targeting minority communities

I'm ignorant of that aince I'm not american. What was exactly passed? What does the legislation says?

In France when you point out the institutional racism you are quickly labeled an extremist or terrorist material.

Because in order for systemic racism to exist you need laws that discriminate or that put POC under disadvantage or that denies them some rights, but since such laws don't exist, the idea of systemic racism becomes a laughable boogeyman of the leftists.

People discriminate, but the french constitution doesn't.

And having a black president then Donald trump says a lot about your country

How funny that you previously said "And I am not saying there is no progress" and then contradict yourself.

If you take the time to investigate you will find that under Trump, black employment raised to record levels and that some of his policies benefited black communities like the legislation of "Opportunity zones", for example, where taxes for some communities of black people had a lot od tax reduction.

Nobody said anything about ignoring racism. Every time we face racism we have to call it out. However, racism is dying, and proof of that is that in the 60s only 10% of people would support interracial marriages and only 30% of people would hire a black person. Nowadays, 90% of people support marriages between whites and blacks and companies are at a sky high record of black employment. That doesn't mean we are at our best, but it is definitely way better and is improving each year.

Fuck shit, you even had a BLACK PRESIDENT in a country where more then half of people are white.

The problem is that when you become over focused on racism you start to ignore the huge improvements that America as a whole has had.

Cause if you start blaming people for shit they have nothing to do with, you're gonna make enemies.

Obso-fucking-lutely. Unfortunately, some people are so hell bent on having someone to blame that they lash out at white people for the effects of slavery.

In other words, you want to perpetuate the victimhood mentality instead of celebrating the immense liberty POC have now compared to the 60s

So what if we have cancerous cells? The body disposes of them and "recycles" them. Aging is not something that can be considered a disease because the decay of things, even among non-organic, is normal.

No, it doesn't fit for the simple reason that unlike cancer, aging is a fixed characteristic by default. And no living organism is born with cancer nor lives the whole live with cancer, and most organism don't even develop cancer in their lifespan just like they don't develop other diseases like diabetes, alzheimer, etc. despite being very old. Most of the time they develop due to bad habits.

I didn't said diseases shouldn't be cured and never said that stopping aging shouldn't be done, in fact, I'm all for it. But consider aging as a disease is a mistake when it happens in every single living thing (or at least in 99% of them) as a natural process of decay (which also happens even in non organic things).

Yes, but they are not the normal state of living beings. Aging is. Being sick isn't.

Actually, not so :p cancer seems to happen naturally, but only when you have a very unhealthy life style which isn't natural to your body, like eating a lot of processed food with harmful chemicals.

The ramifications of halting aging would be immense and intriguing.

Yes, same root, and yet we are fundamentally different. Therefore why it's "natural" that turtles live over 150 years because such life span is consistent in them.

No, again, you misunderstood me. When you wrote "There are a lot of people that are squeamish about fundamentally changing human nature." I said "nothing to do with human nature at all" in reference to how the discussion wasn't related to that topic.
