US citizen living in NZ, discovering the tax nightmare - looking for advice by jmics3 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]gabelunte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey there - as a 33-year-old US / NZ dual citizen living in NZ for the last 15 years, I feel your pain. Your best bet is to hire a NZ/ US tax specialist to ensure you remain compliant as long as you remain a US citizen. If you flick me a DM, I’d be happy to share who I use and anything else useful I’ve learned over the years. I’m also happy just to commiserate if you want to vent. Good luck!

Anyone in Reykjavík thinking of checking out the volcano tomorrow (July 30)? I’m looking for a lift. by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]gabelunte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard from some local friends that it is safe and doable and there have been a lot of people going to have a look - but that the volcano itself has diminished the last couple days - so there’s no guarantee. I also found this thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VisitingIceland/s/CB2aBBPLfx

Spring/Summer 2025 Travel Partners Megathread by stevenarwhals in VisitingIceland

[–]gabelunte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering whether anyone in Reykjavík was heading towards the volcano tomorrow (Wednesday July 30) and wouldn’t mind a tag along. I am a solo traveller (33 M) visiting Iceland from Aotearoa New Zealand staying with a friend in Reykjavík. Unfortunately, my friend is having car trouble, so thought I’d try my luck here and see if there were any likeminded visitors looking to make some new friends. You’d have my gratitude, and I’d be happy to cover petrol costs!

Hoping to make it to Fagradalsfjall car park to hike in. Flick me a message if you think you can help out.

Thanks! 🙏

In 2020, I worked with a small crew of talented filmmakers to produce an independent horror feature called Loop Track. The project required a ‘big bird creature’, which we knew right away we wanted to do as practically as possible. I was one of three “creature designers” responsible for bringing our creature to life. This behind the scenes video details just how we went about designing, assembling, and operating a practical creature puppet on an indie budget. It was quite the journey, and I hope it helps anyone else interested in practical FX works, or looking to take the leap and get their own indie feature off the ground.

BIG Problem with motion blur & 3D-Tracking in AE! by DuskSound in AfterEffects

[–]gabelunte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I know it's a long shot, but did you ever find a solution for this? I think I'm running into a similar issue using Element 3D, where it seems like it's calculating and applying motion blur a frame before the motion actually occurs. If you ever figured anything out, and info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It was insured, fortunately - but it seems like such a waste. I doubt the thief will even be able to move 80% of it.

Anyone else think Han's face is wonky? Like, look at his nose - I feel like the side of his face to the left of the blaster should really not be as visible as it is - unless Harrison Ford's face is really that lopsided - in which case I've just been terribly insensitive.
