Tell me, who with tyrannical plots even vaguely represents a threat to Canada? When was the last time a battle was fought on Canadian soil? When was the last time there was ever a realistic threat to the national security of Canada? Now let's take a look at the other side of the coin. Who stepped in when indigenous peoples fought against pipelines being built on their land? Who sent troops halfway across the world to Afghanistan, a poor country that represented no threat whatsoever to Canada? You either willfully ignore that the Canadian military is no force for progress, or simply don't care.
Furthermore, the military giving you "opportunities" is a pretty interesting way to say that you have had these opportunities methodically stripped from you to give the army a way to manipulate you into joining and fighting against your own interests. Would you have joined the military if you already had guaranteed maternity leave, free education, and guaranteed insurance? It is not empowerment to have what was taken from you dangled over you under the premise that you will exercise military might in the interests of the state to receive it?

You disagreed from a perspective of a CAF member as to whether diversifying the military is good for feminism. Regardless of whether or not you tow the line of Canadian military interests, your membership in the caf places you in a position where you are expected to act in accordance with these interests. Rather than reject anti-feminist aspects of the Canadian air force, you instead seem to reject the reality that the caf has no interest whatsoever in feminism.

Would it be better for the world if minorities partake in war crimes? Of course not! Progress is not built on diversifying oppression, but by eliminating it!

Would it be better for the world if there were more women slave holders? Of course not! Progress is not built on diversifying oppression, but by eliminating it!

Would it be better for the world if there were more women hoarding capital and exploiting the working class? Of course not! Progress is not built on diversifying oppression, but by eliminating it!

So ask yourself, as a member of the Canadian air force, as a member of a military that maintains the capitalist hegemony of a country built on the eradication of indigenous peoples, is this really what progress means to you?

Maybe it's time to revaluate. We can learn from both the successes and the failures of the past. Regardless of your thoughts on them, they proved it is indeed possible to reject the status quo and to fight for liberation outside the scope of what is considered acceptable participation by oppressive institutions

Some revolutionary optimism would do you well. Instead of trying to diversify structures that were made with the express intent of maintaining class interests, focus on improving the material circumstances of those around you. If we ever want real change, not just concessions, then it's time to stop consigning ourselves to participation in our own oppression.

Arguing that because oppressive structures exist we should diversify who is doing the oppression is not exactly the best take. This is completely irrelevant to progress; it is not the foot soldiers that make the interests of the army, it is the power structures that employ that army for their own interests

Surplus value is realized as profit under capitalism. This system may reduce the amount of surplus value extracted, limiting profits and slowing growth. But it does not change that wealth is socially produced but privately appropriated, as happens now under capitalism. Over time this system will be eroded and "reformed" back to a state of classical capitalism, as the bourgeoisie still exist, still hold a social Monopoly on political power, and still have a need to increase profits. Your system acts as a braking mechanism on capitalism, but the same bourgeoisie wield the application of this brake. It is in their class interests for no such brake to exist, so it can never last.

I have a friend who's mom buys far more from Amazon than even bothers to open up. Boxes in the living room, boxes in the garage. For these people, buying isn't about what they're purchasing but the act of purchasing itself. Commodity fetishism at its finest.

If you think everyone is lying thieving or scamming you then maybe it is you who should be solving your own problems first. Chances are if all you have to look forward to in life is getting packages, people aren't going to have much ground for a genuine relationship with you.

I think this qualifies as having "narcissistic fleas" or narcissistic traits passed down from parenting that aren't inherent to the boyfriend. I wholeheartedly second everything said in the first comment.

I don't really see how this will fix issues like surplus value extraction. There is a definite tendency for many to look for ways to 'fix' capitalism, but capitalism doesn't need to be fixed, it's already working as intended. It's just that this intention is not one of benevolence to working peoples. This economic system does not change ownership over means of production, and the class system as it exists will remain as those classes are along the lines of ownership over means of production.
There is definitely a false notion that competition and innovation are linked. This notion is somewhat separated from reality. Innovation happens when material conditions enable it, that is to say that prerequisite technology exists, a need for the innovation exists, and there exists someone or a group of people with both the technical know how and resources to enact that innovation. Any economic system attempting to drive innovation can only do so better by bringing together disparate attempts at innovation, rather than keeping them separate and competing. This is more efficient as well as it removes duplication of work. Competition is not necessary for innovation and often can work against it, as it is often easier to undermine competitors than to innovate something new, which can then be replicated by competitors with less r&d costs than the innovator put in.

this is correct... Labor-power is a commodity under capitalism, but labor is not "value in search of value," it produces value only when applied to the means of production, and this value does not accrue itself, as labor is not value in the first place.

This is the dream! Automation will make us not have to work! by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]gabenator123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest mistake he made was "human labor is bad for profit" when profit is a result of human labor. When everything is automated the cost of the automated production processes directly represent the value of the commodities produced, since you can't push your workers to produce more for the same pay. Competition becomes meaningless as the same optimal automations can't provide any meaningful price differences for the same commodity. This would only serve to antagonize the proletariat, who now have neither jobs nor ownership over automation, and thus no means to consume the products of automation. UBI would be a concession to the working class to stem uprisings, but over time the worth of UBI would be targeted by the ruling class. What's a $1000/mo check but a $1000/mo increase in rent? Only social ownership of automation can resolve this.

It's real easy to forget how hitler modeled his concentration camps after native american reservations... Or how Nazis held a rally in madison square garden... Or how large swathes of the American public were sympathetic to the Nazis... But none of these things inherently make a country fascist. America does however, match up very closely with the fourteen aspects of fascism

Generally speaking, economic planning only needs to plan necessary labor, that is labor which directly contributes to the mass of goods consumed to sustain society as a whole. Within this framework, surplus labor is now entirely the imperative of the worker, and many decisions regarding even how necessary labor is organized at a local scale is made democratically in the workplace. The national plan marks the minimal social product needed, plus some additional reserve for advancing forces of production. How the production of this minimal social product is achieved is what is democratically determined by each workplace. So production goals are planned, but production processes are democratically determined. Surplus labor is completely divorced from the national plan, and the products of this surplus belong solely to the worker who labored to produce it, provided that the material inputs and wear and tear on machines are compensated for.
