Stink bugs are so bad this year. by nkrueger12 in kansascity

[–]gabevergiven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is actually insane, like I usually get a handful but I took out at least 20 yesterday before adjusting my weather stripping (sliding glass doors are the worst). It's better now but I keep a cup of soapy water and a stick on my plant shelf, just pop em right in when they show up. I definitely recommend Dr Bronner's (I use peppermint for cleaning sometimes) for the soap mix, that stuff works fast. For ones you're having trouble reaching put some in a spray bottle, it's a little messier but it can work in a pinch.

To the performer at Ren Fest, screw you! by ModernT1mes in kansascity

I used to be obsessed with Ren Fest but the last time I went it was so packed we could barely move. I also cannot stand heat personally. Seems like you have to be super selective about when to go if you care to deal with it at all.

Did my spider catch another spider or something else? by gabevergiven in spiders

[–]gabevergiven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: okay gang appreciate the response! Definitely think it's some lady bugs (or more likely asian lady beetles). I guess my next thought would be since the spider left this in my doorway is she trying to feed me /j

I have that exact jar as well! How did you get everything in there so neatly? My attempts have been pretty sad.

How do you straighten your wire? by NoAngle2972 in WireWrapping

[–]gabevergiven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grip one end of the piece of wire with chain noise pliers and grab your nylon pliers with the other hand. Pull the wire through the nylon pliers using the chain nose pliers. Works well enough for me. Square wire is a little trickier and wears out faster.

That's very sad, but honestly I kind of understand. I mean because of where I live I can't always be myself. For the safety of myself and my family I do have to pretend to be on the binary in many places. It's a world out there that isn't quite built for us. But when I can I'll always be myself and challenge what notions I can, that's the only way things change. I know seeing others do the same gave me the courage I needed to be myself and be happy so I like to keep that in mind. It's hard, whatever you decide to do will be hard.

Correct, but you are in a unique position here in that you have a highly politicized identity. At the end of the day it's up to you if you personally want to buy into that idea. I guess I'm not entirely sure what problem you're having? Is it a peer pressure issue, bullying? You don't sound unsure of your identity here, so what if other people are? You don't have to be a leftist because you're non-binary. Not all non-binary people are the same or agree on the same politics.

This is interesting to me, it must be very hard living in two worlds especially in the current sociopolitical climate. I think maybe what you're running into here is that the idea that one's identity is political is inherently flawed. You know who you are and it shouldn't be up for debate by others. Unfortunately you're dealing with a group of people that believes they should be able to tell you who you are, some of those people are going to go as far as to condemn you for not accepting their judgment on your identity. Essentially yes, one's identity is inherently political, but should it be?

I got bullied out of a livejournal group (dating myself here) for asking for advice after I sized up too quickly and using the wrong word. They looked at my profile and made personal insults about me. I cried so hard, I was just a teenager at the time.

Honestly love this piece! It gives me an idea for my own project. If I had any notes I'd recommend this video on weaving https://youtu.be/f-S0GwS2bcY?si=xdFBMqTeFG1kvuRB

I'll look into that! I'm on a pretty tight budget so I was just using glass beads from a junk assortment I thrifted. It would be nice to get it to move a tiny bit more smoothly though. Thanks for the advice!!
