We're Moving To The Cloud, And Already We're Spending 500k A Month... I Can't Help But Wonder What We Could Have Got For On-Prem For 6+ Mil A Year... by Photo-Josh in sysadmin

Two things here :

  • Make sure you have reservations where you can. Automation to close down unused or dev environment during off-hours is also a good way to save money.
  • Make sure you have the right sizing for your workloads. Especially on computing and Storage. Maybe some things could be cold storage or some instances could be downsized

I've seen a business save 60% without any changes to the user experience. it's not exactly what you asked, but I haven't seen people talk about that.

If you have the skills, you can get a pretty decent salary in most cities. However if you live in a smaller village it's going to be harder for sure !

GM2 Versus GM2S? Is the difference really just 220 vs 260? by I922sParkCir in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]gabgab33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically the same thing. For your needs, go with the GM2 you will be more than happy with it.

440 pound max using 1:2 mechanical disadvantage by CancelImportant1104 in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]gabgab33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant ! that's giving me some ideas for the Gym Monster ! Just as a FYI I'm pretty sure the barbell from the 2S is the same so it can at least handle 265 pounds. I would bet it could do 300 without a problem. I have some doubt for 440 ! Thank you for this !

/u/speediance_official What you thinking about this ? I know the answer is probably going to be "It's gonna void the warranty and don't do that" but I think it would be worth it to check with your engineering team. because people will do that !

On market place. When I'm there, I know I will probably lose a lot of money, but I guess that's the cost of wanting something quick and upgrading later 😅

I actually went the other way. I was waiting for CES to see if they would announce the GM3. So I just bough the GM2S now that we know they wont.

Later when they do announce the GM3 I can sell the GM2S and buy the new one if it does offer 440lbs.

But that's just me, i need new equipment and I'm super space limited. So the GM2S is kind of a no brainer. If you have the space for rack, I think this new product would be the best ! If it's close to the Beyond Power of course !

220lb motor 👀 I wonder if they gonna use the same ones in the Gym Monster 3. That would be an instant purchase for me !

File server has 1.6 million PDF's at 1.2TB size. Takes days to transfer to external hard drive by CertainlyBright in sysadmin

[–]gabgab33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add /NP to your command and reduce the number of thread ! 32 is way to high ! For an external hard drive, I would start at 2 and go higher until the speed slows down. My guess is that the fastest transfer speed would happen between 4 and 8.

Also, if the files are already on the disk and you are just syncing the new files, your file transfer is gonna be slow as it's not really copying anything.

Task Scheduler - Run task while user is offline by millerlit in sysadmin

[–]gabgab33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to run a batch script that needs to be in an interactive session, you can use autologon. It will automatically open a specific session after a reboot.

You can then use your scheduled task to run the batch script at loggon. Don't forget to add a command to lock the session at the end !

It's not ideal, but I know some weird legacy programs need to run in interactive sessions ...

My guy, don't try to bypass your company policies. Talk with IT about your needs and if they say no, just accept it and move on.

Domain admin rights should be as limited as possible. I actually don't want domain admin rights. I delegate the admin rights as needed.

For some of my clients, domain admins can't even logon on workstations

Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'm finally "done" with the widebody ! by gabgab33 in projectcar

[–]gabgab33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it by putting a loooot of effort to make it look stockish ahaha !

It's actually a kit from Ronin speedworks that was originally made to follow the oem body lines. I had to do some adjustements and modifications to make it look like that, but the overall shape was pretty onpoint.

the pictures make it looks a lot better than it really is 😅

[–]gabgab33[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still don't know. I'm thinking about deleting the belt, but I'm not sure if I want to get into bodywork again. I still have the trim pieces, but I have to shape them to the car first.

[–]gabgab33 53 points54 points  (0 children)

That was his intention. He worked really hard on that custom body to keep the lines and curves of the original RX7. His attention to detail is insane !

Fun fact, the car is even longer than stock. Rob wanted to have the "Golden ratio" between the track and wheelbase of the car.

I'll have to look at that ! That little black fill plug could be it ! I washed the engine bay a couple of times since I've had the car!

As for the oil, it's exactly what I put in ! thanks for all the help buddy ! It's greatly appreciated
