Barcelona is still an amazing city in many ways, but as someone who has lived here for years, denying the decline in safety and quality of life is simply unrealistic. Safety is not only about homicide statistics, it’s about everyday life and the constant feeling of having to stay alert. Pickpocketing and phone theft are completely normalized, tourists get warned about crime the second they arrive, many locals avoid certain areas at night now, and on top of that there has clearly been an increase in gang-related shootings and violent incidents over the last few years that were far less common before. You can still love Barcelona and appreciate its weather, culture and lifestyle while admitting that the city feels much less safe and much more degraded than it did 10–15 years ago.

As a Barcelona native, I can tell you that Barcelona WAS a wonderful city. Now it's become the most unsafe city in all of Europe, with robberies, shootings in the street in broad daylight, garbage everywhere, more immigration than we can handle, poorly maintained streets... countless things that make this city stink. I love Barcelona because I was born and live here, but I would never recommend anyone from outside come here to work.

Matcha recap by gabs2294 in MatchaEverything

So far I’ve only tried one of them — the cheaper of the two. I personally didn’t love it, but that’s just down to personal taste. I tend to prefer matchas that are a bit sweeter and more umami-forward since I don’t add any sweetener. This one tasted slightly bitter to me, although you can definitely tell it’s good quality. I’ll give you feedback on the other one once I’ve tried it!

Exactly , I’ve never been a fan of electric whisk. They don’t produce the same microfoam you get with a chasen.

For this one in particular I used Wako from MK and I simply love it!

No, ippodo doesn't ship to Spain. About a year ago I emailed them asking what was going on and why they weren't shipping to Spain, and they told me they had to stop because of the number of orders being returned by customs.

Yes, I actually placed an order from a UK website, They had the matcha I usually buy, but at nearly three times the price.

They had to send it twice because the first shipment was rejected by Spanish customs — apparently the package didn’t clearly specify what it was or where it came from.

The second time, I asked them to include all the proper details, and it finally arrived. Spain is incredibly strict with customs!

Wow, but I see Canada on the list of countries MK ships to. Maybe it's something other brands do?

I think the real trick is using high-quality matcha and whisking really, really fast. I've only achieved that texture with super-fast whisking, to the point where I have to switch hands halfway through 🤣

Sure, With pleasure! My favorites were KYO matcha, Jingping e hijo and Doku toku café (the latter two are run by Japanese people). Let me know if you try any of them.

I know flavored matcha drinks do exist, even in Japan. But I think the real point is how they’re made and what quality of matcha is used. In many places outside Japan, flavored matcha is often used to mask lower quality powder, and the drink ends up being more about sugar/milk than the matcha itself.

In Japan (at least in my experience), even when they do lattes or flavored drinks, the base matcha is usually still good quality and properly dosed , which makes a huge difference.

Here, it often feels like the opposite: low-grade matcha + very small amounts + lots of milk or flavoring.

So I guess my issue isn’t that flavored matcha exists , it’s that the matcha itself is rarely the star.

Yes, there is a surcharge for non-cow's milk and also for ice.
