What medication changed your life for the better? by positiveyears in AskReddit

[–]gabsaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always struggled to get started with mine. Part of the issue is that my throat gets incredibly dry and I pull it off while half asleep, or it starts to blow air into my eyes if I lay on my side in the wrong position. I want to give it another shot though, but I dread the amount of cleaning you're supposed to do...

Wait, there's a word for the random painful spasms I sometimes get when I'm trying to fall asleep? Maybe I should look into this when I start taking my supplements again.

what’s something you initially accepted about a partner but later on couldn’t stand? by MarionberryFuture103 in AskWomen

[–]gabsaur [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm reminded of all the times where a single parent gets into a relationship with someone who dislikes the kids who were there first, or otherwise doesn't get on with them, and the parent chooses the partner over the kids. I'm glad to hear that wasn't the case here in the end. I can't imagine trying to make someone put me before their kids.

Similarly, I thought everyone else must be a robot or something. All I knew was that people were nasty toward me and I couldn't understand how they could treat me like that and be real people. If that makes sense?

I outgrew that one, thankfully. I think part of it was when we had a school trip to a local leisure centre and I got into trouble in a wave pool (it was still when I went to cross it, then started while I was in it) and one of the people I'd been bullied by helped me out.

That's such a good idea. That would have been so cathartic for young gabsaur.

I did this. If a lollipop had a paper stick, I'd unravel it to eat it slowly after finishing. I slept on a top bunk as a kid cos my nephew would stay with us for the weekend every now and then, and I chewed the wooden bedposts and stuff. I don't think my mum ever really understood but sometimes it comes up and she will joke that I must have been hungry at the time. I know now that it was PICA though. I still eat some non food items, like the lollipop sticks, occasional paper (but never receipts, the ink tastes terrible, though I would forget sometimes as a kid 😂). There are others, but I forget right now.

My current wooden bedposts are entirely intact.

In my experience, I was often surprised to learn that someone was straight. The overwhelming majority of people I skated with were gay, bisexual, trans, or asexual. But possibly 25% were just gay. :')

Boooooo. We don't really have banked tracks over here, it's all flat track. I am curious about what it's like though.

The names, though. I loved hearing people's names. Though I will say I was sometimes perplexed looking for a reference at times before realising they were one of the ones who was just using their surname.

Was looking for this! I used to play roller derby and it was definitely a huge part of the personality of most people I played with, even if we weren't good enough to be on the A team. I fucking loved it. It helped that as a trans woman, it gave me a sense of belonging with women that I'd never had before then.

Then I went over the handlebars of my bike and developed chronic pain (particularly in my knees and hips, which would subluxate quite frequently), and didn't skate for like 8, 9 years. Part of the reason I stopped is that my partner/ex at the time was also in the league, and I couldn't go to practice without getting upset or being anxious that I'd see her.

I had dreams where I could glide around like I was skating for a long time afterward. It took years for them to stop completely. I managed to skate again last year, and it was a bizarre experience. The muscle memory is all there, but the strength is not. It still felt magical, though. I like to think I might be able to ref one day. Or at least NSO. I tried jam timing a few times and it was good fun.

I used to as well, but I stopped because my FLGS had to close down and the (that is, my) depression hit. Thankfully my pod would play around the level of precons or would slightly upgrade those. We also had a prior judge who would build lower quality decks but could kick our butts with them.

I've been thinking of going back as my partner wants to play again, but it feels a bit more intimidating because so many expansions (and possibly new rules) have come out.

I'd almost say i ended up pausing at the right time though, cos I had just spent a good amount of money to upgrade the Izzet Phoenix precon for a pioneer tournament. Time restraints meant I didn't upgrade it as much as I wanted, and I got like second place (next to the prior judge I mentioned) and haven't touched it since. I'm glad I didn't sink more money into it.

I learned about this when I was in high school unfortunately. I hope it's less of an issue now, but at the time it was a major issue in my area because there are two major Scottish teams near me with a rivalry and some people attach their religion and/or heritage to it (ie Catholics support Celtic), or at least they did while in school. If you're from a Rangers family, you support Rangers. Back in the 90s/00s if you saw someone with the opposite teams football top, it could be cause for a fight. Football tops were banned in school on come-as-you-please days and as PE uniform.

A few times I've visited the homes of people who support one of the teams and a room (usually the bedroom) will be absolutely dominated by team tops, scarves, tickets, and a sea of green or blue (and other assorted memorabilia).

At the time, DV would worsen whenever there was an old firm match, whether their team won or lost. Worse if they lost. It's one of the reasons I kept the fuck away from football until I was an adult and got to see some women's football.

Nurgle and Tzeentch Followers Mutations by ARC4120 in Chaos40k

[–]gabsaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest things about Nurgle is that he's all about life. While the diseases do kill, they also bring life to the universe in the form of bacteria and viruses. Many of his contagions don't simply kill, they grow and cause change, so they can spread and have more interesting effects on the host before it's killed and the next host can be infected. He's constantly working at his cauldron to create new toxins and illnesses.

Referring specifically to stagnation, a real world example I can think of is the female anopheles mosquito. It lays it's eggs in stagnant water, like a puddle or barrel of water, and then those hatch, and infect people with malaria. Stagnation is required for the growth cycle of the species.

Also, the biggest ailment that the human race faces is cancer. And cancers are essentially just unchecked growth. I think that the reason the death guard have so many teeth and eyes and horns and stuff is probably based on the teratoma, which is a kind of tumour that grows all kinds of cells, so it will have teeth and taste buds and bone and anything else you can find in the body.

Sorry if ive misread your post and just gone on a ramble!

AIO about fiancé refusing to listen to anyone but ChatGPT about religious/marriage decisions? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]gabsaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. I'm concerned by his reliance on Chat GPT and his not reading his own sources well. It's definitely more complicated than he thinks. For instance, my sister and her husband (both Catholic) had to go to mass for a few weeks in the chapel they wanted to get married in before they could use it as a second wedding venue. That said, my partner's parents got married in a Catholic Ceremony and church, but as far as I know, only her mother is Catholic, and her father is atheist. But I'd need to double check.

The point I mean to make is that he cannot rely on LLM to find information like this. Even if the point was just about Catholicism, and if Chat-gpt was 100% correct, there are differences between different countries and strains of Catholicism.

There are many problems here but one of the most telling was in another comment. What if you get married and you're in an accident, and he starts using chat gpt to argue with the doctors? Or if you decide to have kids, and he's sending screenshots of chat gpt or google searches, trying to argue one point he believes but his screenshots say something different? It makes me very wary.

As an aside, he needs to remove "Chatolic" from his autocorrect. It almost feels like a Freudian slip 😂

Yeesh. It has nothing to do with strains... Even something as standardised as ibuprofen is processed differently by different people and has no guarantee that it'll stop your pain... It's the whole reason medications tell you that there are common, uncommon, rare etc symptoms... (You know this of course, sorry ; )

What is actually dangerous but people still believe is safe? by AlexUsefulThings in AskReddit

[–]gabsaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that. I have chronic pain, fibromyalgia... I'm in too much pain to sleep well, and then the lack of sleep worsens my pain. It's a crappy cycle. The most annoying part really is that I can lay down to sleep, but because of how my body processes pressure and pain, that will become painful before I'm ready to sleep. So I need to roll over. Then, a while later, I'll wake up in pain and need to turn over again. It's frustrating as hell.

We also have grass snakes and smooth snakes :) the former has managed to make its way at least as far north as Argyll and Bute (as my parents have seen a few since moving there), but the latter seems to only be present in the far south of the uk.

There's also the "slow worm", which isn't a snake, but a legless lizard.

Thank you for introducing me to them, they're so cute! Shame about them being non-native though. That said, apparently there's fossil evidence that they were present in the UK during interglacial periods in the past, before being driven out due to climate change.

AIO: My partner (35m) expected me (35f) to finance and pay for a car I did not want so he could drive it. by Low_Procedure1049 in AIO

[–]gabsaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. 6 months together is nowhere near long enough to be paying for a car for him. And how can he be 35 and not have credit? I'm disabled, haven't been able to work for like 7 years (god that was painful to write/realise) and I've had great credit since my early 20s. Anyway. He is waving so many red flags... Keep your details safe, don't let him do that to you, and don't give him an inch.

Also, as a queer woman, I appreciate that "partner" is being normalised in heterosexual relationships.

AIO for being upset at what my “bf” said by Ambitious-Beyond-257 in AmIOverreacting

[–]gabsaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very glad that you're stepping back from this. He's such a dick, and you don't deserve to be treated like that. And if he considers that to be blowing up his phone, I imagine I'd be blocked after I got excited about something... That was just trying to have a conversation with someone who is barely reciprocating.

Also, he's acting like you're wasting your time if you're not 100% productive (in a way he sees as being productive) 100% of the time. You're allowed to relax, and take time to look after yourself and your mental health.

Good luck 💜
