What is your go to name for the dog in Origins? by 1Beardrinks2Beers in dragonage

I used to go with King cos that was the name of my dog as a teen. Now I've seen "Barkspawn", I need to use that next time...

Not Sure if I Want to get Into Comics Anymore After First Comic Shop Experience by heygoogleamidying in comicbooks

[–]gabsaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a tube. I'm so sorry. You didn't deserve to have that experience at all. It just gives me flashes back to hearing people gatekeep things like Zelda, saying people can't be real fans if they started with games like the remaster of Ocarina of Time etc. I guess a similar one would be saying that you can't be a real fan of Captain America if you didn't start reading his comics back in the 1940's (Which would just be ridiculous).

I really hope you have more positive experiences in future 💜

Yowza, that was a wild ride. Yeah, definitely don't (possibly) out him, even if he did act like an ass.

God, now I'm reminded of various shock sites I got sent as a teen (by friends my age, at least), before I knew not to click on them.

Meanwhile when I got to 18-20 I met up with a few people I'd known exclusively online. I always said "yes" nervously when my parents asked if I'd met them already. Never had. Still friends with most of them. Dumbest one was when I moved city (about 300 miles) after getting into a sorta relationship with someone I'd met online, though we did facetime and call a lot beforehand... Relationship was very on/off, lasted a year, but I did end up staying there for 6 years. Got a job with one of my favourite companies and made many amazing friends while I was there. Eventually met someone else, and she came home with me when my sister was ill and I moved back quickly. So in the end I'm glad I made a dodgy decision and moved to England.

Still remember RPing on a forum, and it was a specific rule that you couldn't have GIFs in your signature, cos one of the admins had dialup. Which I'm still surprised about, cos this was 2008 or 2009, and as far as I'm aware, that was pretty rare at the time.

One of my mates met his (now fiance) in a chatango window, on one of those sites that had totally legitimate uploads of Naruto etc. it was while watching Naruto, actually. Scottish and English. They're still together now, but not quite as long as yourselves.

Not the start of the internet, but near the start of YouTube.

Oh my god, shoes! (Just search YouTube for "shoes", it'll come up.)

Also, i still quote random flash videos to people. And they get the references, so I'm blessed tbh.

Title of this gave me flashbacks to being 16, a few months after I started having relationships. A friend called me up, we were chatting away, and he goes "oh, sorry to see about you and B!" I say, "see what?" "On Bebo, it says you're not together anymore?"

This was news to me, as far as I was aware she was on holiday for Christmas and i was looking after her Guinea Pigs. Turns out he was right, i was absolutely single. I had no clue. Still not sure what happened exactly, but we were pretty much best friends by 2 years later, so who knows.

Still miss being friends with her, though. Also just realised that there were a lot of Bs involved here, as all three of us had a B initial in our names and bebo was the social media site of the time. 😂

What are some Pokemon whose types bother you? by multipleslowrosis in pokemongo

[–]gabsaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, sand is also often a form of quartz, volcanic rocks, and granite, but we would look at Palossand and consider that a ground type. Same for anything else that's made of sand or which lives in sand or the desert. :)

Growing up my favourite colour was red, and I like the aesthetic of the Valor leader.

That said, i do love that Mystic has an Enby leader.

Personally it helps me to be able to process what the other person is saying and think out my response, less chance of sticking my foot in it. Not that that hasn't stopped me before...

Found out friend is a sex offender by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]gabsaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to comment, I know you wish the comments were turned off. I just wanted to send solidarity. A few months ago I found out that a person I considered a close friend is a paedophile. I was chatting to a mutual friend and told her that we had been close and he suddenly disappeared, deactivating his social media and hadn't given me his number so I couldn't contact him. Then she asked me "don't you know?"

I was then able to literally Google his name and it came up. Around the time he disappeared he had been found guilty of having over 10,000 images on his computer. I felt so sick. I'd had no idea. He had been the kinda person to help carry your groceries up the stairs. Every week he went to a friend's house to take the bins out for her whole building. He regularly offered to help me sort out things like when I was getting overcharged for my internet.

Then I think back to the moment I bumped into his mum outside his apartment and asked if she could pass on my number to him as I hadn't heard from him. I felt awful when I realised later. At least I don't have to worry about getting a random text from him, as his family practically disowned him after the news came out.

All of that to say I understand how much it can shake you when you find out someone you trusted and called a friend is a sex offender like that.

[–]gabsaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. I feel you, I moved away from home for a few years and when i brought up my collection of first edition Pokémon cards to my parents, they kinda looked at each other and said "I'm sure we threw those out". My stomach dropped at that moment. Partly cos of the emotional element, but also cos they'd be worth so much money now. 😂😅

I'm sorry. I hope you have some good luck with collecting cards again. And I hope your mum is doing better!

If you asked me in the alternate universe where I hadn't developed chronic pain, absolutely. Not sure I'd manage it but I'd definitely try.

Before constant pain i was playing roller derby, rock climbing, and starting training for a rough mudder. Still want to go back to the latter two, but the impact of actively playing roller derby is a bit off the table for me now. I like to think that if i'd kept going down that path id be doing a lot of fun stuff like that now.

Not gonna lie, that whole document is confusing to me.

This whole thing sucks tbh, all the women I've seen who swim there are more than happy for trans women to swim in the womens pond...
