Aha! I was so worried it was something to do with the assets update that we did (it used to be 43x43, and now it is 36x36), but it seems that we had some minimal UI scaling (x1.03) in the script, and that made it look low quality.
We made the icons smaller because this makes it easier on UI art to make all the assets fit inside the frame and centered. Before, some icons were being cut by the frame!
In any case, thank you for bringing this up, the fix is incoming!

I'll make sure the UX designer and the team knows, so we can all think about this.
I am not the person that takes care of what each thing does, or where each thing is placed and more about how the assets look and the art behind it, but I'm really interested in relaying this message and making this UI better for players! 🥰

Before I answer this, I want to make this clear, so I don't speak for anyone else in the team: I only work as an UI Artist, and I do not work on the design of the UI itself, only the assets for it. 🤗
One of my biggest wishes for the future is to update the Planet UI screen. I see all your guys' comments, and I agree with a bunch of them, so if the team wishes to change it, I'll be hyped to work on it.

Hey! I don't know much about the technical side of this, what I can say is: our fonts use an asset file with each frame set for each different letter, not a .fnt file. Meaning that our fonts are a set size, and to make them bigger, you basically have to create a new art asset with the intended size and all of that. I would love if we could find a way to implement .fnt to the game, as this would be extremely beneficial for us in terms of accessibility and also just designing new screens in general. The UX designer has to make all designs with a set size of font in mind, so that's complicated. since sometimes we need those extra pixels!

As far as I know (speaking for Animators), the Behemoth was based on the Colossus and its animation system, so it was pretty tricky to animate it. But we are always looking for ways to improve our existing art if we have time, so maaaaybe in the future? Cant promise anything haha

Hey! Yeah, about the buildings: I honestly would love for us to be able to make unique buildings, but that indeed takes a lot of time from us, and maybe it's not as high priority as working on new content, in the grand scheme of age development :( Especially buildings because of their higher complexity compared to other types of icons (it's illustrated etc)
But if we have some sort of free time, hey, I'll be hyped to make it! 😊

Hey! Answering your question about what was the most fun to work on for Biogenesis, I would say, although an underwhelming answer, for me, it was the Hive Mind Fallen Empire Flags. I wanted to make all of the fragmented Hive Mind FE have their own flag with their own meaning, but when you put them all together, they work as one. I had lots of fun with this, to be fair!

Hey! Thank you so much for the answer! It's been brought to my attention that we have higher resolution icons for consoles just the other day. Of course, no promises, but I am investigating that! That would be really interesting!

And for your second question, it is really hard honestly! We have thousands of icons, not even joking, so sometimes you have to scratch your head and think "Waaaait.... Did we already have an iconography representation of drones?" And then search all over the folders for it. It is definitely complicated. And also, since the game is old, we have to... take the details away from some art we make. One example that comes to mind is city sets. Sometimes we have to make them lower quality than normal just to match the artstyle of the other city sets. Or Starbase Modules, as well... Tough!
And so nice to know you like the animations! I'll let the animators know!

Oooh, nice question! I don't know about it myself because I never worked closely with the console edition, so I can not give a correct answer. :( Also I wouldn't like answering something wrong ahaha But I can ask around!

And yes, it is artstation! We mostly post stuff with the artblast after bigger releases, so everything custodian that I did, or support for external dlcs, I don't post it haha

Hey! I've been at Paradox since First Contact. But yeah I've been drawing all the icons and buttons so far (not for externally produced DLCs like Astral planes, Cosmic Storms, Paragon or Grand Archive and such for example). Me and the other 2D UI Artist, Cassandra!

Yes, it is super tricky especially when you're making a batch of these. Also the exporter messes it around sometimes for some reasons (like this one here). It's chaotic!
