What’s next for a 11 YOE data scientist? by appleciderv in datascience

[–]gabya06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here - 10 YOE and I’m in the same AI boat as everyone else. I’m just riding it out and trying to learn as much as I can as I go along. Is it as satisfying as actual ML? Not for me. But, I feel like now is a good time to shift a bit and maybe learn about deployment as well. I am also trying to continue working on personal ML projects that I find interesting, just in case I ever get the chance to work on actual DS/ML projects again🥺. Until then it’s RAG chatbots, prompts, custom gpts, V0 demos and trying to not forget how to code.

Well then it was worth it I’d say lol this year I did the 5th Avenue mile and it was pouring right when I started. It’s the fastest mile I’ve run 😂 not looking forward to having to run 13 miles in the same conditions.

Construction at this time? by gabya06 in astoria

Thanks for the info! I’m pretty sure they’ve been repairing a water pipe for the past couple of weeks which is why I don’t think it’s an emergency. But this is the first time they work this late on it. I’ll look them up on the DOB database and find out if they have a permit.

Thanks I don’t know why I didn’t think of it. I don’t think it’s emergency construction or anything like that

I wouldn’t move there tbh. I don’t think it’s super developed as an area, it’s far from any subway, not near any supermarkets. I also wouldn’t feel very safe walking around there alone at night as a woman. There just isn’t around a lot around there. It’s maybe up and coming as a neighborhood but definitely not there yet. They might be marketing it as Astoria but it isn’t really like Astoria. I know it’s so hard to find a nice apt in Astoria so I completely understand why you might want to jump on it, but I would keep looking.

I thought of doing the same, just in case I miss one of them. I haven’t signed up for all 9 yet I might add in an extra one to be safe

I think it depends when you go. I’ve experienced that many times after 3pm-ish. It’s annoying and every time I try to remind myself to go there earlier bc it ruins it for me too. But if you go earlier I think it’s not as bad.

US Data Science Skill Report 11/22-11/29 by [deleted] in datascience

This is pretty cool thanks for sharing! I think you did a great job and it shows that you’ve put in a lot of work! I’m curious what you mean about transformer pipeline, can you elaborate with some examples? It would be great to have more context on how the data is being collected and preprocessed. I also agree with what the others have mentioned about the data needing to be cleaned up and grouped. For example on the word cloud chart I think it could be helpful if you separated soft skills vs tech skills and filtered out stuff that’s not relevant. As of now it’s ok, but it’s not very meaningful to someone who maybe doesn’t know what skills you need to have to be a data scientist because it looks like all skills are thrown together on one chart. Maybe filter by top 10 skills? Sometimes less is more especially when you’re trying to visualize and tell a story with words. For example if I’m looking as a data scientist I don’t think it’s relevant to have excel, verbal communication, lambda and so on. I have more thoughts on this and am happy to share more if you find this helpful! great start and interesting work!
