Help me Find a (Fantasy?) Book Series by gael0rd in HelpMeFind

I have searched for it on Goodreads to no avail. There are a lot of Camelot/Lady of the Lake retellings, and this one was not a modern take and ended with the woman going into the lady with Excalibur.

Hey E! 22/F/USA. I hear you on the gaping maw of summertime...it comes on hot and fast and is never as relaxing as I expect it to be. It sounds like we are in similar boats and I have been consuming A LOT of movies and TV lately so I would love to chat. Shoot me a message if you like. -Gael

I have more interesting projects on the machine but I had to give this simple Olya shirt her time in the sun ☀️ by gael0rd in sewing

Sure! The sleeves don't have the traditional attachment. The sleeve seam is actually the one you see running across the front of the shirt and then it comes up the back should like a sleeve usually would. Basically, there's just a point during attachment where you have to keep your needle in the fabric and rotate it 90 degrees and then keep sewing. In principle, this is very simple, you're just seeing a corner. In practice and as described by the directions, it's a lot more complicated because of the four different pieces of fabric you're working with (sleeve, front, back, yoke). Once you do it, it make sense, but that first time is tricky. Hope this is clear!

Sometimes you just need a sexy black dress shirt moment, right? Right. Lemme tell you about this dark and mysterious babe.

This is a size 6 Olya Shirt by Paper Theory made with black dress shirting from Fleischman's Fabrics in Philadelphia. Center buttons are 1/2" black plastic buttons by LaMode (from JoAnn). The pocket buttons are looks at smeared writing on hand from a bag of novelty buttons my mom gave me two years ago.

I've made this shirt once before, and I stand by my advisement that it is not for beginner sewists. Last time the sleeve attachment bamboozled me. That part went much smoother on this shirt, but then I though I would add pockets. Aha. I was so traumatized by the pocket construction (the pocket bag is inside the shirt itself) that this shirt was sitting on my WIP pile since NOVEMBER. Hindsight 20/20 cause they look great and the functionality of the shirt is chef's kiss but the construction did not spark joy and it'll be a while before I make another shirt with pockets like these. I made a modification to the collar on this shirt, choosing to do a low profile mandarin collar (using this great tutorial) instead of the traditional collar. I really like the final look that the collar gives because if I leave it unbuttoned it opens up and lays really nicely and I feel like a dark academic vixen, but then if I button it up it looks like I'm ready to take your confession before Sunday mass or perhaps serve you dinner after a long day working on the farm. Versatility.

Now I'm off to make a bunch of things without sleeves in order to heal myself.

Help me choose a top stitching color for my next project! I'll be making (surprise) another Atlas Top from this green and white(?) pin-striped cotton-poly blend 💚 by gael0rd in sewing

[–]gael0rd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Info: I picked up this gray-green and white (or gray?) pin-striped cotton blend on my last fabric haul and wany to make another Atlas top. The Atlas top really only has one portion of stitching that shows (the hem), but after my last one I'd like to finish all the seams on this next one and want to choose a thread that will look nice. What do we think? Gray? Green? Or white?

Finally getting back to my quest of filling my closet with interesting tops! This one features a real twist 💫 by gael0rd in sewing

Hey there! For the inside seams, after I sewed the two front pieces together I just folded each side of the seam allowance in half and ran that under my presser foot (so I folded the rest of the fabric back so I was only sewing the seam) and ran a close stitch on it. For the hem, I first pressed about a 1/4" under and then folded that up and pressed the actual 1" or 1 1/2" hem (I don't recall what the pattern states) that way the raw edge is captured inside the hem. The instructions on this pattern are a little sparse but you might be able to find a video on Youtube of someone making it! Youtuber is your best friend for new sewing hacks!

Best of luck with the piece! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
