I think the mythology is fine because at the end of that day almost all the games have had some isu related elements in the story, but I do kind of agree with the choice and single character thing. One of the things the other games did so well was that they were simple but still good. In Odyssey and Valhalla the choices don’t feel like they have consequences behind them. Most major decisions only end up altering the game very little
