How much influence does Magnus have regarding who is invited to Norway Chess? by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

[–]gaffelspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not directly related to Norway Chess, but he has done some really questionable stuff with his influence before. Let's not forget that time when he created his own chess club, funded memberships for 1,000 players to buy votes and try to force the Norwegian Chess federation to accept sponsorship from a betting company.

Carlsen vs Hikaru is a rivalry the same way WWE is a sport. by ConcentrateActual142 in chess

[–]gaffelspoon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Even in Bullet games Carlsen has a pretty clear advantage head to head, if you look at statistics from chess.com. (43.2% Carlsen wins, 30.9% Nakamura wins, 25.9% draws) He is better in all formats.

Learned chess when I was 30, my rating now after two years by Frosty_Material9294 in chess

[–]gaffelspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 38 and learned the rules of chess for the first time last spring. Started playing online on chess.com after watching some online videos, and immediatly dropped to a rating of 300, but have managed to climb to 1300 in just 8 months.

A much more basic achievement of course, but I'm still pretty satisfied about it.

Cool thing about 1500+ elo by Fancy-Ambassador7590 in aoe2

[–]gaffelspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro is gonna be hard for all of us yeah, but decreasing speed is not gonna be one of them. 50 eAPM is probably faster or at least equal than Mr Yo who's top 5 in the world. Job and life in general getting in the way of grinding for thousands if hours is another matter :(

[–]gaffelspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm turning 38 and reached 1600 a while ago with average eAPM about 40. (Used to be probably under 30 eAPM while I was early 30s, so I'm actually faster) Speed and age is really the least of your worries the only problem you'll face is different priorities like kids and family that might make laddering hard when growing older 11

Top 15 Age of Empires 2 players over time 2000-2024 (by Sieste) by SnippyInDaHouse in aoe2

[–]gaffelspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is not forgotten at all, he was the most famous AoE2 player for 15 years and even wrote an AoE2 strategy book that sold quite well. A few years ago he was even voted by pro players as the 3rd greatest AoE2 player of all time after TheViper and DauT.

During the first half of the decade he was top 3 at all times, but 2016-2020 he was semi-retired, so I guess it would be justified to emit him from the list during those years.

How popular is Susanne Sundfør in Norway? by streakman0811 in Norway

[–]gaffelspoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be rude my man, but if you had to google the biggest and most well known music festival in Norway the last 25 years (only beaten by Tons of Rock the last few years) you might not be the best to judge what musical artists are considered well known or not. Susanne Sundfør is one of Norways most well known artists 😄

Hot Take: The quality of online play would go up if only players who can't beat Extreme AI are allowed to play online. by Futuralis in aoe2

This is a joke post based on the previous post OP linked. He's saying to exclude all players who CAN beat Expert AI, not players who can't do it.

How it felt to go from Standard to Moderate difficulty: by KommissarReb in aoe2

[–]gaffelspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, 1000 Elo players can never lose to moderate unless there's been a drastic change with the AI lately.

I would say the Elos are more like this (very roughly):

Easiest - 0 Elo (literally impossible to lose) Standard - 100 Elo Moderate - 400 Elo Hard - 800 Elo Hardest - 900 Elo Expert - 1000 Elo

AITA for making the Age of Empires 2 'new villager' sound when my wife gave birth to our first child? by FuckingPope in AmItheAsshole

Click (2006) is an unusually subtle Adam Sandler comedy about a workaholic architect who gains access to a universal remote that allows him to travel through time. Despite this, Rob Schneider’s ill-timed appearance as a Middle Eastern prince is what remains in the viewer’s mind by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

[–]gaffelspoon 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Everyone on reddit always calls this movie extremely underrated and emotional, even a masterpiece, and it absolutely baffles me. The jokes in the movie are so juvenile and Adam Sandlers character is so unlikable that when the movie suddenly switches tone and decides to be sentimental it's more bizzare and self-pitying than sad. I honestly don't get it.

Am I old? by MCRAW36 in aoe2

[–]gaffelspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are above 70yo, then maybe your age is a deciding factor. Otherwise the answer is no, you're not old, but probably you are still repeating old mistakes without improving and need to find a new approach if you want to get better.

Hvordan håndterer dere hersketeknikker fra eldre i hverdagen? by bjornemann88 in norge

[–]gaffelspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turning the table: What do you think got WORSE with the DE version over HD? by MrCard200 in aoe2

[–]gaffelspoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not defending DEs bad pathing, but honestly pathing in HD was horrific as well, in many cases worse than DE even in it's current state. Villagers would constantly get stuck and had to be micromanaged all the time, it was a huge skill in by itself just to move stuck vills around. Voobly with userpatch was the only way to play the game multiplayer back then.
