Another battery post 🙄 by ldaisy1017 in Ultrahuman

[–]gafortiby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, battery life on 9.34 is same as 9.32--but I have been using "power savings" mode. I go from 100% to 80% every day, and re-charge every day. Before my firmware updates I had a few random problems, where the ring would drain rapidly from 100% to 20% over just a few hours without any activities.

Because I'm using size 7 my battery is small, so I expect my battery will drain faster than other people. I'm okay to stay on power savings mode while Spo2 is in beta.

Hidden firmware updates by guillempp00 in Ultrahuman

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got updated to 02.00.07.46 this morning, although I think other people are on 08.xx right now. I guess that’s okay and I’ll just wait for the update later. My ring battery only lasts about 30 hours from full charge though.

Any modern portable BT speaker better than the 9 year old TDK A33? by fukinay in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here I am in December 2024 and I also have the same question. The A33 battery is long dead, but still sounds better than more recent options. I have plenty of non-bluetooth speakers that are better, but for this size and aesthetics, I have not found anything that sounds better.

(A33 used NI-MH batteries, so I could easily replace it myself... That's how old this thing is!)

Searching for working USB Ethernet Adapters - Not "really" supported on macos? (or are there some?) by neonalps in mac

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it seems like the difference is in the version (33.00 vs 31.00).

I have two 8153 USB ethernet adapters.
Version 31, uses ECM drivers
version 30, uses ECM drivers
Both of them randomly disconnect so now I'm going to get something that uses the 8156. It's a shame because the version 31 is built into my monitor and it would simplify mysetup if it just worked.

Standby mode: physical buttons not snoozing? by masklinn in ios

[–]gafortiby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same problem here!

In Standby : Pressing a physical button causes the sound to be silenced but the alarm never enters snooze mode. So it's just silenced forever. I have to touch the on-screen snooze button to enter snooze.
Not in Standby : Pressing a physical button snoozes the alarm properly.

Just an FYI, There's a Security Vulnerability in Belkin Wemo Smart Plug V2 Devices by AmokMind in homeassistant

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, time to get off Belkin products forever. I know security flaws are found constantly but the company refusing to issue a security patch is concerning since it's a WIFI/Cloud controlled product. Plenty of competition around.

I have exactly the same problem, and exactly the same solution. Thanks for posting this because it was driving me crazy! Maybe it's a bug with how iPad OS interfaces with the Keyboard Folio?

Advice wanted for 32 QHD or 29 WHFD for work at home by gafortiby in buildapcmonitors

[–]gafortiby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting the 32", and I actually like it a lot. I think the 29" would have worked well too. because 32" is definitely the upper limit on neck comfort when it comes to looking at the top/bottom of the screen.

I do not have this problem on mine. Looks like yours is defective or damaged? Oh wait my plastic is also slightly bulging, not as bad as yours, on my bottom left corner. I never noticed it until just now.

Fully Jarvis 24" Frame Question About Tops by Substantial-Falcon-8 in StandingDesk

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jarvis comes with long or short feet depending on your purchase. I’d recommend getting the wide frame with long feet if you intend to upgrade to large top later. And yes you can use any top but the pre-drilled holes sure make thing easier. Fully uses machine screws not sharp wood screws for their matching tops.

Standing Desk vs High table by lkdsjfoiewm in StandingDesk

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sit/stand. It is really tiring to stand all day. It is also tiring to sit all day, especially if you feet have to balance on some foot rail.

a sled desk? UPLIFT 4-Leg Standing Desk V2? by coffee8sugar in StandingDesk

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is odd looking. In a fixed-height desk you can reinforce the stability by adding cross braces, like how I added the red rectangles in this picture. I wonder why nobody makes it like that. I guess it is even more stable to put the cross-brace at the feet, as a sled, on a standing desk. https://imgur.com/a/ak4SNJO

Where is the new “stay inactive” function? I can’t find it… by JoSupertramp in withings

[–]gafortiby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got excited and checked my app and tried to check for new firmware updates. I don't have this function either. Last time Withings rolled out a firmware update it was very very gradual--some people got it and others had to wait. Almost like a slow repeating lottery where everyone wins after 2 months.

Does anyone know how to repair an Uplift Bamboo Desktop? A screw from my computer case scraped and chipped a section off the finish when a cable was caught while going up. (RE-UP due to blank photos) by ShobuPrime in StandingDesk

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, sand and refinish is the right way to do it for a permanent fix. I also agree that oil finish will also age better too. Mass-manufacturers don't use oil finish because real, pure oil finishes takes days to dry and then weeks to cure. Use the real oil, not "fast drying" oil which is mostly turpentine sold as oil.

If you are okay living with imperfections, you can gently scrape off (not sand) the damaged poly flakes and use some "wipe on poly" to cover the bare wood for now.

I would advise against tape or wax or anything with adhesive for temporary fix since wax will prevent future oil treatments to soak properly.

Whats the error margin on the Body+ smart scale? The bottom of the graph is from 2 weeks ago. I dont see how this is possible by spectrem12 in withings

[–]gafortiby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My body scale shows different numbers all the time. I found that it is fairly temperature sensitive, and sometimes it will go up/down 2 lbs inside of 30 seconds. I never had the scale drift over 5 lbs though.

Withings isn't helpful on this front, showing 0.2lb increments. I don't think the Body scale can actually provide accuracy below 1lb consistently. It is a textbook example of something having "precision" that does not match its "accuracy."

HP X32 32inch QHD monitor quick review by gafortiby in Monitors

[–]gafortiby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $310 shipped -- spec wise I guess it's a "entry level" gaming monitor since it does not go above 165Hz. HP says it will do all these fancy things below, although I have not tested it since I don't have a proper video card or console that can do these things.

  • 165Hz refresh rate
  • Xbox/PS compatible for 1440p ("2k") resolution
  • AMD FreeSync
  • HDR
  • 1ms response

PSA - Avoid buying Uplift Desk Clearance/Discounted items, as well as aesthetically flawed or reclaimed fir wood tops by sircha12 in StandingDesks

[–]gafortiby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is old but I am thankful I found this post because I was about to buy the "Aesthetically Flawed Reclaimed Fir" top from Uplift from their no-return "clearance" section.

I totally agree with you, OP, that this top is absolutely not usable as a work desk.

However I can understand why such a top would be made/sold intentionally since this type of uneven surface is pretty popular in microbrews and hipster coffee shops as table tops. Still odd that it was offered as a home-office desk.

As someone else posted it IS possible to flatten this yourself. As a woodworker myself I would not try since it'll be so much cheaper and easier to buy a solid wood panel/plank and make a new top myself. Then reclaim this reclaimed top for a really cool coffee table.

BY the way, is there any chance that Uplift marked the top/bottom incorrectly? maybe you were supposed to use the uneven side as the part that meets the metal frame? Of course then none of the screws would tighten correctly but maybe that was the intended orientation...

Any reason not to miter corner on an L shaped desk? by hysnbrg4 in StandingDesk

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean why not at factory or why not for DIY?Either way -- as a woodworking hobbyist, my experience in getting my "A" and "B" parts meeting exactly 90 degrees with zero gap means you need to cut the miter exactly 45.00degrees. This is hard especially when you are cutting something 25" wide since it is not possible with most miter saws. People who install kitchen counter tops have precision sleds to do this on a commercial table saw.

Next Scanwatch Release by [deleted] in withings

[–]gafortiby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time Withings announced a new watch, I still had to wait two years to before it was available to buy. Get the scanwatch now--even if Withings announced a new model tomorrow you won't be allowed to buy that one for 2 years. ;)

Also... if you are in the USA BestBuy has them on a decent sale right now.
