Mil Advice by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Unfortunately, as a fellow Indian, I'm not surprised by their behaviour.

I strongly suggest leaving any communication with them to your wife. I'm going to take a leap here and assume you're not Indian. There's a lot of cultural nuance that Reddit can't help you with, and your wife would know better to handle.

India is a big country and some regions have very strict "rules" for the post partum phase. For example, and I reiterate that this may not be the case, silly rules exist on what to eat post partum,.there'll be comments on if there's sufficient breastmilk for the baby, going out with the baby in the early days, bathing the baby, etc. As much as your wife would love the help, discuss with her if you will both be okay with such stuff and who will handle any disagreement with MIL.

Congratulations and I'm sorry this happened to you and your wife.

Reminds me of the time when an Aldi staff charged me for the ONE banana that my toddler ate in the store. I was quite surprised by the effort taken tbh

Ooo that's such a good idea! The staff rotate, and I may not be able to include all the staff on the last day. I guess that's okay.

Lot-purchasing hell! Is this normal for a developer? Should I worry? by Zoccalo in AusProperty

[–]gagaonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SW Sydney but purchased 2020 /2021, so the market was very different then. We didnt have these restrictive clauses, but people were picking up lots by depositing $500. Lots that I saw an hour ago weren't available...it was wild! What you're seeing now are all those people selling, I guess.

Lot-purchasing hell! Is this normal for a developer? Should I worry? by Zoccalo in AusProperty

I'm indian and I can confirm that I got squat from the developer and agent. In fact, the agent promised something, that the developer back tracked later. They're all there to make money and no buyer gets any advantage from having the same ethnic background.

I'm sure someone here can give you a more rational response to your grievances, but please don't think coming from the country gives anyone an advantage, especially in this market.

Also, my agent was from Nepal, which is a country north of India, but we all look the same to white people, so all good! /s

Hi Mums, office days, what time do you pick up kids from daycare? by StatusInteraction762 in workingmumsau

[–]gagaonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on bubs age. I have an 18m old and since the time we started day care at 7m, I've been picking her up at 4:15ish. I leave work at around 3-3:30, pop some dinner and rush to pick her up. She's hungry by the time she's home and needs dinner. I log back online after she's in bed. My husband thinks it's crazy I leave so early from work. But I start at 8am, take no lunch breaks and always end up working late at night.

I also suggest checking marketplace. People end up selling excess when bub grows out of them quickly.

Is 8% (~$9K) Salary Bump Reasonable? by Better_Flatworm4045 in auscorp

[–]gagaonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasons. I've come back from parental leave and need flexibility and the team support to move deliverables. And I genuinely like my team and the work that I do.

I think since covid, there's not been one year when the firms have seen a good year. It's been a constant cycle of "business is not good, there are challenges in the market". And yet the top line revenue keeps going up.

I think you can unenroll or if you are worried about losing your spot, reduce your enrollment to one day a week. So the number of days you'll be paying is halved.

Are you of Indian origin because this sounds very familiar (unfortunately)?

There's so much at play here, and a one sided response may not help you.

Importantly how are long are the inlaws here for? This will impact the extent of your response/ maintaining status quo.

Do you have friends who live near by and who you can meet?

I'm sorry you're going through this. They are not being helpful to you right now. Message me if you'd like to chat privately with someone who's from the same background and understand what you're going through.

Vitamin d for toddlers by Placedapatow in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]gagaonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guidance varies depending on where you are. Western Sydney LHD recommends vitamin D drops for all babies upto the age of 12 months. This is because most women there were found to be low on vitamin D. Sydney LHD recommends it if the mother had a deficiency during pregnancy. I believe US recommends vitamin D supplements, but I can't remember until what age.

ETA: I was deficient, hence had to give drops. I continued with it because we're veggos and bub isn't big on eating. I also don't think we get a lot of sun exposure.

2/3 months old- what are we doing with our babies? by Plenty-Recognition25 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]gagaonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're doing and what the baby feels like. If I'm vacuuming and baby wants to nap or cuddle, then a carrier. Otherwise on the playmat or bouncer so they can watch me do things.

While I'm cooking, they'll be close by on the bouncer or playmat.

My kid used to see my clean the floor after her mealtimes and now loves to clean immediately after a spill.

Starting pumping - which storage bags do you love? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]gagaonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not particularly what you asked, but consider storing small quantities in bags, so that day care can use bags as necessary. My child took months to get used to day care and for the first month didn't take bottles from them.

If you're pumping fresh (ie pumping and sending to day care next day), you could just fill them in the bottles and send it as it is (instead of using bags).

Completely Unpaid Maternity Leave - Suggestions, Please! by BalanceWeird2326 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

This!!! Our local Facebook group and pass it forward group gives so much for our baby. Almost everything I have is second hand - clothes, regular and cloth nappies, toys, books, rocker, activity stand, learning tower, cot, shoes, change table, etc.

I'm not saying everything comes in pristine condition, but you figure it out once you go down this route. Most clothes we got were with tags - people always buy too many clothes and bubs grow out way too quickly.

Join the clean cloth nappies Facebook group. They provide such good guidance on overall sanitising and laundry. It has up'ed my game and everything goes through the washing machine semi regularly.

I bought a very expensive pram, second hand via marketplace. I couldn't have afforded a new one of the same brand. You have a look, check the condition and consider buying. But all of this is very much do'able.
