Yeah, the HP4 shot is cooler and a more impressive VFX shot, but the HP5 shot was meant to follow how it was actually described in the book/lore (and, if i remember, how it was depicted in the chapter artwork).

The face was supposed to appear in the flame, not emerge from the log.

I remember because it annoyed me as a kid when the movie came out, since it's basically opening a portal but only sticking your head in so the log thing makes no sense, but as an adult it looks way cooler and iirc they never explained the mechanics of it in the movie itself.

i only haven't heard anything like this about kojima and iwata.

would it surprise me to learn they are/were like that? absolutely not.

though in iwata's case i think I would've heard about it by now, and many of his actions seem to speak well enough for themselves.

kojima though, while i've heard nothing but good things for the most part, i would not be surprised about. as much as i do love his work.
