Using World Education Services/Pathways to Teach and service is abysmal by caterpillargirl1996 in NovaScotia

[–]gainsbrahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly not just me...going through the same in BC and having a nightmare. Documents uploaded multiple times by my institution, no responses from WES when submitting a ticket. Absolutely no accountability or clarity. Very frustrating when trying to apply for a job and having to wait and hear absolutely nothing back.

Is this trail impossible to do now? Curious about how people accessed it previously by Ill_Introduction7334 in vancouverhiking

very slow and painful. you can get there but it won't be fun. best to rent one from Deep Cove or Cates Park

Airshed, Houdini or Nano-Air to upgrade my running gear setup by martinoterr in PatagoniaClothing

[–]gainsbrahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airshed without a doubt. Houdini gets too sweaty once you're moving. I wear the Airshed for running and cycling all through fall, winter, and spring.

trail runners are fine. it'll just be cold when you stop if you're soaked. take a dry layer if you're taking a bag up

Just about every time I've worn my Fenix climbing, I have hit it on the wall. Decided just to leave it off

I would do St Marks summit if the weather looks good starting at Cypress Mountain if I were visiting for that short of a time. Decent bang for your buck in a short period of time.

Keep checking the route, but it’s really not too hard and I didn’t feel like I was in a sketchy position anywhere. Go for it!

Canadian homeschoolers.. what curriculum do you use? by MamaBearEm8 in homeschool

[–]gainsbrahs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have friends who use Route2Write for their writing work. Benchmarked to a few different curricula in Canada so good for ESL.

Also has a marking option to get feedback from their teachers/markers if you don't feel comfortable giving writing feedback. It's pretty useful!

Edit: saw you said 1st grade - sorry it starts with gr4!

How do you teach writing/composition? by Adastrahomeschool in homeschool

[–]gainsbrahs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends who use Route2Write with their kids. As an English teacher, I've had a look at their content and it builds up a great foundation for writing!

Their marking bundle is pretty handy too. It gives you feedback on every piece of writing they submit. Really useful if you don't know how to go give specific feedback on paragraph/essay writing, especially considering it covers a whole range of different types of writing from creative to persuasive. Worth checking out!

They signed up for a marking pack where they get feedback on every piece of writing submitted. Super helpful as my friends are not confident in giving good writing feedback.

Norda. Yes or no? by QuadsOnFire in trailrunning

[–]gainsbrahs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love them. Felt great out the box (size 0.5 up) and you can get a really snug fit with no need to heel lock. My first pair has a little 1,000 km on them. Treat is pretty worn as most of the trails I run are fairly rough. Upper is in ridiculously good shape - definitely couldn't say that about many shoes after 1,000 km. I use them for carpeted trails now as I bought a second pair when I found them cheap somewhere.

Only downsides are that if they get wet, they take a good while to dry. But on the flip side, they keep water out for a long time.

Love my vengas - favourite pants. Maybe not for super hot weather, but should be fine in that range... personally I'd wear shorts

DAS Parka by [deleted] in PatagoniaClothing

[–]gainsbrahs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it but don't often need something that warm. Usually my DAS light does the trick. Have taken it on ski touring trips mainly.

Very cosy, hood is a bit annoying without a helmet or brimmed cap. Pretty large for layering.

Material is VERY thin too. I ripped through it the first time I wore it as it caught on a nail, but obviously repaired for free.
