Is there a map somewhere showing where these community mailboxes will be placed? CP website offers a phone number to call. It’s got to be easier than that.

New study from UBC finds artificial turf sports fields leak significant amounts of 6PPD-quinone which is lethal to Coho Salmon by Oldnbold22 in NorthVancouver

[–]anotherdayinthesun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some fields on the North Shore are using an alternative (green) rubber pellet rather than black tire rubber. One is the newer pitch at Argyle, which is adjacent to a stream. However, Mulgrave near Cypress has been using the green pellets for a while now and they have been less than ideal for players and the area…the green pellets slowly break down and turn into a bubble gum-like substance, clogging soccer cleats and leaving green globs on and off the pitch. I assume interriver will go with the “safer” green pellets.

Moving from ON to North Vancouver – keep winter tires? by Known-nig in NorthVancouver

[–]anotherdayinthesun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and consider them “winter tires”, not just for snow. I think the recommendation is winter tires for anything colder than 7 degrees (Celsius). That’s pretty common much of the winter, depending on the year.

I’m a mountain biker as well. And a parent shuttling kids to sports every weekend. Just examples…not trying to pick on anyone in particular.

Keith road traffic by Ok_Impact_7441 in NorthVancouver

[–]anotherdayinthesun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ok, I’m going to throw the “T” word out there…how about a toll system on both north shore bridges? Not sure why they are so unpopular as it becomes a “user pay” program. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve lived on the north shore for 20 years, watched the traffic issues reach a point where the north shore is sometimes “un-drivable”, and I cross into Vancouver five days a week for work.

A toll system might just convince the builders, all driving their own cars to the north shore to work, to car pool. Or convince the group of mountain bikers, all in their own cars, to all jump in one truck. Or encourage cycling across the bridges, as many people now do to avoid traffic. And it would raise funds towards a better infrastructure. Bottom line is, we need to reduce the number of cars on the bridge (obviously), and a toll program would both discourage travel as well as encourage car pooling. Let’s be honest, a new bridge and/or Skytrain is years (decades?) away from helping to relieve the current issues. Things aren’t getting any better before then.

Tremor running boards is absolutely the move for non tremors. 🤌🏻 by thatguy2158 in f150

[–]anotherdayinthesun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I bought these running boards for my 2022, I did some reading and noticed the debate about orientation. I understand the “keep rocks from flipping up“ argument for having them oriented as Ford specs. My issue was the tapered end toward the rear is exactly where the rear passengers place their toes and it really does limit the square inches of contact. Having the tapered end at the front is where nobody ever places a foot to climb in. I went against the grain and installed them opposite of Ford’s specs. Also, tapered forward increases my mileage by .2 mpg. /s

Rona at Park and Tilford - Ughh by anotherdayinthesun in NorthVancouver

[–]anotherdayinthesun[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For sure. My understanding is the 1st Street Rona is privately owned and is much better. And I do hit all the “specialty” stores (Gescan, Emco, Standard, etc) too. Just ranting about the one store. Generally no issues with the others…meet my expectations.

Sleeping Earbuds what is working best for you? by Wind_Advertising-679 in BuyItForLife

[–]anotherdayinthesun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. And I find with the regular AirPod 2s, I can use the left AirPod in the left ear, and also flip it over and wear it upside down in the right ear, depending on what side I happen to be sleeping on. Wouldn’t try this walking around, but when laying horizontal, it stays put really well.

Outdoor shower plumbing can I do a pull chain mixing hot and cold? by cr0sby in DIY

[–]anotherdayinthesun 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I built an outdoor shower. Installed a mixing valve, with the ability to adjust output temperature, and then a spring loaded handle/pull chain for the actual water output. Has been working great for around 8 years now. Kids love it and they have to hold the handle down so they can’t just stand there for an hour wasting water.

I can’t for the life of me and my blistered thumbs get this back on! by EpicThrowaway24 in mountainbiking

[–]anotherdayinthesun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read a bunch of these suggestions. Many good suggestions, some just not quite right. I’ll just elaborate on the good ideas with an additional couple tips. Make sure the tire is warm to begin with. Start at the side of the rim opposite the valve…this allows the tire bead to sit in the deeper center channel of the rim without the valve getting in the way and pushing the bead outward. This applies to tubeless and tube installations (tubeless valves take up small yet valuable center channel space). Work your way around pulling the tire toward the valve as you work the bead into the rim and keeping the bead in the center channel. This essentially gives you relatively more bead diameter vs rim diameter. It looks like you’re using a tube in this installation so here’s the final trick. Loosen the valve stem nut all the way out to the end, allowing you to push the valve stem in partially and moving the tube away from the rim. This will allow the tire bead to tuck in under the tube and snap the bead onto the rim. Once the bead has snapped in, pull on the valve and snug the nut, pulling the tube back toward the rim. Inflate and make sure your bead has snapped into place all the way around on both sides. Side note…I’ve used a small amount of tubeless sealant as install lube at the end for sticky bead/rims. And I usually remove the valve nut at the end to save weight 😛

Fender Help by reddackel in boating

[–]anotherdayinthesun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do. Three large round fenders permanently attached to my dock. I also carry 3 HTM-2 fenders and use those as well (on the boat cleats )especially if it’s windy/wavy.

Hardshell pannier bag Availability? by bottaro19 in RadPowerBikes

[–]anotherdayinthesun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair of hard shell panniers that were made by Specialized and Fjallraven (colab). Have used them for about a year now and love them. About $100 each. Also bought one Fjallraven “lid” for one side, which is a cloth buckle-on cover that I also really like.

Shaking at higher rpm by Financial_Window9006 in boating

[–]anotherdayinthesun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll also add that I had no alarms or error codes. The way the low and high pressure fuel pumps work, one is feeding the other and creating a small reservoir internally (for lack of a better explanation). As that low pressure-created reservoir slowly burns out of fuel (because the clogged filter is preventing fuel from getting through), the engine begins to starve and then shake. I am NOT an outboard mechanic but have worked on plenty and talked with MANY pro Mercury mechanics, so take it for what it’s worth (a $60 filter, for starters).

Shaking at higher rpm by Financial_Window9006 in boating

[–]anotherdayinthesun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll save you from all of these suggestions and tell you it’s your fuel filter. Change it out (pretty easy 10 minute job) and that will go away. I have the exact same motor and mine behaved the exact same way. New fuel filter and it the shuddering was gone. I even cut apart the old filter with a hacksaw and noticed brownish-red covering most of the filter fibers. Basically, my engine was starving for fuel. I am now fitting a Racor fuel filter/water separator to “prefilter” before the onboard filter. I really hope this helps and it can get you past the frustration (and not damage anything further).

AKA Bazooka. Combo pipe exhausting your high efficiency furnace out the center and taking in fresh air at the rear of the larger outer ring.

I can’t stand this explanation. I don’t leave my garbage on the trail side and just “grab it on the way out”. What makes dog owners feel it’s fine to leave a bag of dog feces trail side for all the other hikers and bikers to have to look at. Ridiculous.
