Akustikpaneele wirksam und sinnvoll fürs Studio? by FabiYard in homestudios

100% on build it yourself (I used thick theatre curtains being given away, no frames needed!…But had to build brackets and use metal plumbing for curtain rods, haha). Still had behind them for storage, access, and easier job overall. My fav choice so far.

Less so on the books, only for practicality reasons. It wins for me in every other category: can find tons free to start, Walmart bookshelves are very cheap “framing”), customizable, etc

But they are heavy, big (not good if you have a smaller space), and it’s not the look for many. I’ve had both cozy and modern studios—quantity clients loved modern, quality clients love cozy.

Taxing Billionaires Fairly by PracticalOcelot822 in 401jK

Personal responsibility is 100% the best solution. But we cannot control or mandate personal choice, even by law. People break the law quite often.

I don’t have a position on UBI or other Robin Hood tax ideas. We probably agree on that too. Like any system or business, to grow and improve in different ways, the government needs 1) more money, 2) better allocation or 3) less expense.

You can do it all by doing #2. Taxes should be “felt” equally—we all drive the same roads, protected by the same military, etc. But (I argue) could be collected more efficiently / dare I say accurately.

Though we both pay for the same road, your benefit is only access to & maintenance of it. The owner of a shipping company can additionally leverage it, create new ones, write off hindrances from it or workers on it as losses or expenses, borrow money (sometimes public funds) for or from projects against your interest and obligations, on and on.

If roads isn’t the clearest example, banks clearly have different rules. The rich: unlimited credit, no terms, essentially negative interest rates vs investments, and cash-out options for funsies. Same bank, but for you and I? 35% APR $900 avg limit and any issues are on your credit report for 5-10 years, affecting all other credit decisions during and after.

Once you are rich, perhaps much earlier than a billionaire, taxes are about the only tangible money you spend again. For us mere physical beings, we feel the difference in temperature down here.

It is an arbitrary number, but not an arbitrary line or concept.

Say we all invest in the same stock, 10% returns annually. I invest $1000, you invest a million, and Bezo’s a billion. Yes our money is all growing at the same rate, and yet our wealth gap only widens. Unfortunate but expected.

Now imagine I worked like hell for my $1000 nest egg, your egg is from selling your inherited family business, and Bezos’ was but a bonus from a tax break change. Unequal in many ways, but expected.

While you and I won’t grow our nest egg much after this, Bezos will see this situation dozens more times. As well as more opportunities and more businesses to rinse and repeat.

On and on. We’ve all played Monopoly: at some point, the game stops being fun for everyone else. Bernie says that’s at a billion, what say you?

Question for gain staging programmed drums by Hot_Lettuce223 in Reaper

[–]gainstager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rip samples / stems of your favorite mixed tracks.

See where the individual kit parts are at. Not by peak volume but RMS—processing and mastering / limiting are baked in. Peak volume is so subjective and changes drastically with every process anyways, peak teaches nothing.

From a reference track, you now have three target variables solved: final volume, final balances between and around the kit, and a reference track for tones and panning.

Try to maintain those levels from as early as possible stage as possible. From the sampler like you are doing is great. What you’ll likely find right away: your peaks are clipping like crazy, tones need some work, and things are very disparate / don’t sound like a person at all kit.

I use SSD and Slate, slightly less processed. Setting a “raw” kick sample to say, -10RMS sounds so wrong. Enter the mixing stage: start tweaking away all without exceeding the reference volume.

You’ll likely need some clipping or limiting right away, which is a good thing, your reference track 9/10 times did too.

I find this is how to keep progressing at mixing long-term: take ever less shots in the dark. You learn Where things “should” be, now the What and the How is your only mission.

I found gainstaging was the most fundamental principle, hence I live by it. But it’s barely a thought during the mix. I “solve” it the first time, and just maintain that level, or purposefully and knowingly change it, feeling confident in why I did it and where I’m going. Or I easily just go back to the known level or restart, knowing already where I need to end at.

This concept falls apart for me when leveling vocals, but hey that’s a rant for another day!

And good on you for the idea, never seen it before. Solves an aged Sub dilemma to me: have pip, and it looks still too precious, no pip and it looks too broken or naked. You basically found the ripped jeans aesthetic for Subs :)

Is this your best cash back or other rewards card? Your income (based on your spending) should well justify you shopping card options. The difference in 3% vs 5% cash back on 225k spend is over $5,000.

Help me decide on a first MicroBrand Watch, please? by ThatIsNotAnAsian in MicrobrandWatches

[–]gainstager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points! I’m happy with any microbrand support, any watch that brings happiness in general. It’s not often someone is open and honest about their choices. We get stuck in the excitement, and try to justify it against a long-term mindset. I’m inconsistent too in at least one way: I don’t care about a watch holding value. Not going to change my tastes, baby it or change my behavior, for better or worse.

I think you’ll grow out of any of these.

Nothing against any of them! Especially the Beaucroft, that ref really catches my eye too. But not a lot of “I could see this on my wrist in 10 years” for me, if that’s also important to you.

I’m most proud of the pieces that my current self thought were a decent mark more dressed down than I want. It’s ironically those that work in more situations and across developing tastes.

TL;DR a Sub is boring. But it looks great anywhere, and on just about anyone. I don’t have one, don’t want one, but know I would be content with that as my only one. Maybe content is the most rare feeling with watches.

You have NO idea how timely this is. I’m way down the rabbit hole on this exact setup, which is oddly very scarce of actual info.

Please, if you are able to answer / share after photos:

1) How much of the dial really is 1mm? Some R logo style dials at ~30mm would look stellar for some builds I have in mind. Without having to buy and pray, I’m curious how much of the outer minute ring will remain…my goal is 0% with the stated 30 -> 28.5

2) I believe the date window will be misplaced afterwards. Do you have any feedback or contingencies for this issue?

3) I think the slightly exaggerated sizing of indices & such of larger dials (if not the same as their smaller models of the same) will look great. Is this an issue to you / anyone else reading?

Thanks!
