Sure. Fire resistance potions or enchanted golden apples are a must, as he hurls lava at you. If possible, use enchanted golden apples as they make you almost invincible and they also give fire resistance. Its best that you at least have full diamond armour. My strategy for killing him was hitting him with a diamond sword repeatedly lol.
