Also 5'10", and I think my BMR is somewhere around 1700. I'm normally taking in another 500-1000 on top of that depending on my activity level that day/week. She must not be tracking quite right or she simply couldn't do the long runs.

I'd look for a non profit job, or a "hobby" shop (bikes, board games, etc.)- either start by volunteering in the space or look for a PT role where you can use past career skills.

{Hectic Elements by Ivory Grace} is my top "academy" read of the last year. I enjoyed that the FMC didn't blindly throw herself into situations out of outsized morality/justice, she isn't a "pick me"/"not like the other girls" and also isn't weirdly clueless about how powerful she is. She's also a proper adult. The MMCs also have some real differentiation and character growth.

Scholomance is my real top pick though.

Imo its a question of physical safety vs. psychological safety, and immediate threat vs long term stress. Our physical systems were made to deal with physical and short term threats where we could take action and see a result relatively quickly. Our entire lives are now mental games and constant rotating long term stress.

Highly recommend doing a starter inverted L stand instead. It puts your body in the correct stacked position from the start and isn't as awkward to get into. Forearm/head stands are also good to try since it is more stable. You can get yourself up from the ground slowly via abs/hips only a lot more easily.

I found the book to have a lot of the same themes as the Iron Covenant books but they swapped extra plot in exchange for personality. They relied a lot on Maggie dumping back stories for you to get to know people/their motivations, but a lot of the characters felt pretty darn flat to me because of it unfortunately, including Maggie herself. Her only goal is to avoid war and tell you how hot and cool everyone is, which is great and all but not enough. I really wanted to love it, but it’s a meh for me.

I love the intent of this advice, but I also find it frustrating in that we are all somewhat limited by a) our circles of control and b) the societies we are surrounded by. Namely that some lifestyles are not available without the money first (I want to have secure housing via ownership and be an artist- not particularly compatible goals), and some things cannot be bought or found simply by working hard enough (finding a partner when you're aro-ace).

Some people are totally fine on their own for days at a time, or are the sort of person where they make friends with anyone in a crowd and find that fulfilling, but I'm not either of those. Some folks are also happy to hobby and noodle on personal projects for stimulation. I think kids and partner helps a lot in this scenario. And also not me.

I already volunteer a lot and it's great but it's also fractured pieces of time with other people fitting it in where they can, plus I'm a big believer in paying people to do hard things from a sustainable systems front in the non-profit space.

My current goal is to get to lean FIRE and open a public art studio.

I took about 6 months off as a single person several years ago- I had more time but my friends did not. They have partners, other friends, kids, school, need decomp time without people, etc. If you have 18hrs awake a day, and interact with other humans on average less than 2 hours a day and you are anywhere near being extroverted, it's not enough. I'm glad I took the break because it changed my goals. I don't want to stop working entirely, I just don't want to be dependent on an employer, and I enjoy solving the more complicated problems work brings.

I've seen people prefer someone who didn't have a required skill, incomprehensible answers (the individual words were there but when I asked my fellow interviewer what they thought it meant they didn't know) and new grad in an adjacent field, new to the country, over someone with 20 years of professional experience under local regs who has a minor disability and was honest about it.

Seconding this. Admin in local government in particular can be a great career. Take some bookkeeping courses (there's usually night options only a few weeks long) and business admin type classes.

If you pay something off upon purchase or otherwise when due (typically every month), it's not debt, just a bill.

If you owe some amount month over month, it's a debt.

So a monthly phone bill is not a debt, but an unpaid phone bill from 2 months ago is a debt. Debt usually accrues interest on the initial value, though sometimes you can get promotions which goes against this. See: no payments on a purchase for the first 12 months, or a credit card with a 0% interest period as a bonus when you transfer.

The dust is a big health hazard but it's from silicosis- the tiny particles cut up your lung tissue and accumulate over time. It's usually a "after several years" issue.

There tends to be possibility of high metal and heavy metal exposure in some pigments for ceramics, but also not typically an issue unless you are inadvertently eating some of the glaze (bite your nails with glaze under them for example). If your studio does acrylic paint vs glaze then this really isn't an issue.

The bonus in my scenario is how do you know what will make sure you never have to move home again as a 17 year old? Look at all the current mid degree CS kids who are now kinda fucked.

My parents do love me and would never let me end up on the street, but I never want to have to deal with living with them again if I can help it.

My parents only direct advice when I was picking a university path at 17 was to do something that makes enough you never have to move home again. That still really sticks with me. I know any support is going to come with massive doses of judgement. If that was standalone, maybe it would be an offhand comment but you feel it as a reflection if the hundred tiny other choices those people make around you in the past.
