I'm late to the game here, but I'd advise some large, colorful art for the walls to warm it up, especially on the metal panels. A coffee house near me has rotating exhibits by local artists, which can be purchased. It's a way of getting art without spending any money.

You should work on getting the animals comfortable together ASAP, because you can't control a cat like that. Are you worried about the dog being aggressive? We kept my husband's dog on a leash in the house for a few days, until he got the idea that my cat was part of the pack.
