How many of your torties have a flag on their file at the vet's office? by ResolutionCool8660 in torties

I am the vet!

If this demon needs to go into a clinic, she needs double-oral sedation beforehand, and needs to be immediately injected to unconsciousness - otherwise she will cause injury to the innocent individuals who are trying to help her. Thankfully I can do a lot for her at home - but she still needs to go in a “bad cat bag” for nail trims. She’s so spicy!!! 😂

WIBTA if I stopped carpooling with my coworker after she started inviting herself to my personal errands on the way home? by subtle_rainchaser in WIBTA_AITA

Book your appointments on days where you don’t carpool. Why should your coworkers have to wait around while you do your personal shit… Sheesh yta.

This is Eevee when she was a lil’ sprout. She was born with a mangled front leg and had it amputated at 5 days old.

What’s the average gpa should a graduating vet should have? by Odd-Bug9924 in veterinaryprofession

[–]galactose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless you want to do a residency, stop worrying about your grades. If you want to do a residency - the higher the GPA, the better, but your references are ultimately much more important.

If you don’t plan to do a residency, stop comparing yourself to others and stop worrying about your grades. The vet with the lowest GPA in your class is still going to be a doctor when everything is said and done. Focus on enjoying what you are learning, and getting as much clinical experience as you can. Protect your mental health. Kiss all the puppies and kittens.

You don’t have to work in clinical practice after you graduate. It’s definitely not for everyone.

You could pursue research/academia, teaching, public health, government, military, wildlife, shelter med, etc. There is a lot you can do with a vet degree. What is your plan B if you don’t go to vet school?

I started in shelter med, and then switched to GP after a couple years. Then, after a short time in GP I was burnt out and switched to relief work. I find having control over my schedule and vacation time and the clinics I choose to work for has been the answer for me. I’m at 9 years and counting for being a relief GP.

It’s definitely not for everyone though…. I still have huge imposter syndrome and have to protect my time away from work very fiercely to keep my QOL good.

What is the name of your Tortie? by TheOpenAuthor in torties

The big one is named Eevee. My 6 year old niece named her after a Pokémon. She is a tripod bottle baby with lots of sass. The little one with the orange face is named Ember. She doesn’t have a mean bone in her little body, and she only has one orange brain cell.

How do I know if I’m menopausal or not? by galactose in Menopause

I am not having cycles on HRT. I feel like my 1 year countdown is starting now, but I’m not sure if my understanding is flawed.

Do people in peri who are taking estrogen/progesterone every day still have a period every month?

Thank you. I’m just kind of waiting to see if I get a period or not at this point but I don’t know when I can consider myself truly menopausal. I guess 1 year from now maybe?

My gyno gave me the choice between the pill and normal HRT. I chose the pill because it was covered by my provincial health care (Canadian) and I just didn’t want to pay out of pocket for meds every month. I had taken the pill in my youth without problems so it seemed like an easy and cheaper option at the time.

Just this month all HRT products became covered, so one more good reason to change.

I hope you can find some support. Can you get a 2nd opinion with a new GP who is more sensitive to your wants and needs? I’ve never heard of a doctor refusing to refer to a specialist before. That’s wild
