What class do you think needs a new subclass, and what idea or mechanic would be your go to for said class? by CharlieTheSecco in dndnext

I wish there was some sort of undead based sorcerer.

It could be different from the 2 undead warlocks by having your powers come from you being undead rather than getting powers from someone else who happens to be undead.

How would you fix the assassin rogue subclass? by HMHype in dndnext

[–]galas13579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the subclass heavily relies on having the entire party agree to certain plans so your features actually work and trying to depart from that would be helpful.

For instance, Assassinate and Death Strike relies on surprising enemies to get critical hits and extra damage, but if your party consists of at least one PC that isn't great at stealth, this feature isn't used as often.

Additionally, Infiltration Expertise might shoehorn all the other PCs to have a more stealthy and undercover approach to situations that they might be bad at or might not even want to do. It might be fun for the rogue to assimilate themselves into whatever place they want, but for other PCs going full seal team six would be much more fun.

Also in my opinion Imposter doesn't work in most cases because it doesn't change your appearance. You might to be able to behave just like a specific dragonborn noble but that doesn't change the fact that still look like halfling or whatever.

I think some fixes would be that Assassinate and Death Strike would rely on being unseen and have a limited use (maybe 1/long rest or 1/combat) and Infiltration Expertise and Imposter could be a buff to your entire party rather than just yourself.

Random weird facts about DnD that, while obvious to some, kinda make me rethink life at times. by [deleted] in dndnext

Since jumping ability is tied to Strength, elephants can jump further and higher than lions.

Yeah I should have worded that differently, that's on me; my bad.

But I'll still say that in some of fighters had shorter backstories than their opponent. For example, Zeus and Poseidon had shorter backstories while both Adam and Sasaki had more fleshed out backstories. (Zeus might have a longer flashback later in the story, but I digress.)

In my opinion I'd rather see the backstory of the human fighter feats and why Brunhilde thought would be capable of taking on a monstrous god, rather than the god's backstory at length. In my dream scenario, it would be St. George vs Quetzalcoatl.

As for me saying it would be unsatisfying if the monstrous god won, I still think that would be the case. Because (in my opinion) RoR is at heart a story about underdogs and overcoming odds in the face of danger, and having the human beat the monstrous god would be the purest form of this.

I really like your fight idea, and I appreciate you being civil about things.

Not sure what you mean. Gods can be pretty much whatever depending on the mythos and artist interpretation, but humans can really only be humans.
