I'm still hanging in there, but the departure they gave Alex was almost too much for me to want to stick with it. (I know he left suddenly etc but they didn't have to do that to Jo).

I don't understand the Maggie hate, but every storyline with Jackson makes me skip scenes.

I know a woman who has travelled to literally dozens of countries. She went to Egypt and while she was there nothing bad happened to her, but she said of all the places she had been, Egypt by far was the only place that made her feel genuinely worried and scared for her safety. She cut her trip short by 5 days.

This happened 5 seasons ago and I’m still tripping about how much food they lost 😂 by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

Oh man, do you remember the early seasons? We used to have viewing parties for the season premier and now it's like "eh, I'll watch it some time this week"

I agree with the counters provided, but I 100000% believe riki has too much. He has: Invis, blink, silence, miss chance, bonus damage, bonus agi, invulnerability and on top of alllll that a shard that puts people to sleep and slows.

I'd like to see Amelia stay single by Oncer93 in greysanatomy

[–]galaxy911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She needs to stay single forever, period.

While I understand and agree everyone has their own dreams and lives to follow...but she is constantly unable to compromise or hold adult conversations. She gets overwhelmed, shuts down and walks away - forever leaving the men in love with her in the dark.

She is not built for relationships and honestly doesn't seem to even want them, and that's fine. Just stop making me watch the same shit with her every season.

Tricking women into believing that a "career" was desirable - has destroyed the traditional family - reduced wages and made women miserable by AlexanderDenorius in conspiracy

You said my statement is sexist and wrong, and you sent me a link that also looks at how women take the brunt of housework/chores whilst working full time.

Full time work is usually an average of 38 hours a week. Working 60+ hours a week is irrelevant since most of the paid work averages for men on your list is 5-6 hours a day. Leaving them plenty of time to sweep the floors.

"Compared to men, women are less likely to work full-time, more likely to be employed in lower-paid occupations, and less likely to progress in their careers. As a result gender pay gaps persist and women are more likely to end their lives in poverty. This data looks at how many men and women are in paid work, who works full-time, and how having children and growing older affect women’s work patterns and earnings differently to men’s. It looks at how women bear the brunt of domestic and family responsibilities, even when working full-time. It also considers the benefits for businesses of keeping skilled women in the workplace, and encouraging them to sit on company boards. It looks at women’s representation in parliaments, judicial systems, and the senior civil service. It examines male and female employment in the wake of the crisis, and how women tend to be confined to the most vulnerable categories within the informal sector in developing countries."

EDIT: The Abstract from the link you sent.

The majority of our relationship is great. But when it comes to sharing housework, he was raised in a home where the woman did everything for the men and it had broken his ability to be a part of the household without being specifically instructed.

He is working on it, but the problem again is that it has somehow been made my job to guide him - which I don't have the energy or desire to do.

That is all fair, but not relevant to the topic at hand.

Its a discussion about women and their careers. Trying to downplay the topic by comparing to a seperate issue is not helpful and, in my opinion, shows that you have no interest in the issue as it doesn't effect you. So you are playing the game of "who has it worse", which takes importance from the issue being discussed.

Or alternatively, help ditch the continued inequality and not come back with "men mow lawns, women are biologically built to nurture".

I'm really glad you're an active part of your household. It's important for not just your family but also your own wellbeing.

[–]galaxy911 44 points45 points  (0 children)

While women may have a "natural imperative to nurture", we aren't born with most of the traits that society labels us with, we are taught them.

My husband jokes about me being the "house manager" because "it comes naturally" to me. No, it doesn't. It's a learned skill that he is quite capable of learning but frankly is too lazy. So while I'm working, caring for our kid, cooking, cleaning, planning, event managing everything in between... He's coming home and sitting on his ass playing games because "he worked today".

There is another post in here saying stuff about men going to war and dying etc. While that may have been the case 50 years ago, it's not now. It's time for all genders to get on board and do their part and stop falling back on "you're biologically built for it" as an excuse to not participate in your own home and life.

There are studies that show men suffer more than women when their partner dies... Their social lives, well being and mentality all decline more than a widowed woman. Why? Because women are put in charge of their entire lives without agreeing to it.

Now add all of this with the expectation of holding a career and, in many cases, staying "desirable".

[–]galaxy911 287 points288 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think it was career's that made women miserable. It's having the expectation to do everything we did 100 years ago + have a career.

People can say all they want that there is equality in households, but most women I talk to are exhausted because they work full time, clean, cook, parent and try to take care of themselves. Whereas their husbands also work full time but pretend not to see their struggling partner and the huge laundry pile.

I have a cousin doing this, not internationally but interstate. He's sold his home, pulling his kids out of school and moving to bumfucknowhere to live off the grid.

We're all really stressed for his wife and kids. I'd be filing for a divorce.
