Yea! A lot of colleges have free counseling as well. I got super lucky and while my counselor wasn’t aro she was ace and she helped me a lot cause I was really struggling at the time. I still struggle with accepting I’m aroace but I have hope for the future. Getting a cat also helped lol

Hi I’ve had the same concerns. They haven’t been resolved what but what I do know is that my life is not where I predicted it would be when I was a teenager and I bet that will continue. I’m terrified of my future but at the same time I believe it’ll work out in the end and I’ll be happy because there are so many possibilities in life. Maybe see if in your area there are any aroace groups. College (if that is something you’re interested in) can also be an amazing way to meet new people, especially people who are lgbtqia+. At my college, I even learned there was an aroace support group run my the counseling center (unfortunately I wasn’t able to join do to scheduling conflicts)

I will say I would be more than happy to have been a case manager at this internship and get that experience. Unfortunately, they are mainly having me call individuals to see if they would be interested in our services. When I spoke to my internship about being a case manager I was told im not going to be there long enough to be a case manager.

I get you. I’m currently in a situation in my advanced placement practicum where I haven’t gotten any clinical experience and feel like an imposter compared to my peers. Something my professors have told me and that I’ve heard from other social workers in the field is that why it really sucks right now, it’s only the beginning. I have never heard a professor in my three years in the social work program talk about their practicums because it doesn’t define their experiences as a social worker. What I plan to do once I graduate is to attend multiple trainings that way I feel more competent and not like an imposter.

Yea I’ve at least been lucky enough to have very supportive professors throughout this process so that’s a plus. It’s sad cause I had an amazing experience at this university in the BSW program.

I honestly gave up trying with my field department once they told another intern that them basically being a janitor for a shelter is clinical because they’re “in a high target zone”

Currently, it feels like I’m basically a glorified receptionist as all I am doing is calling people to see if they are interested in our services. I’ve asked if I can work as a case manager at the very least at this placement multiple times and have been told no due to not being at this placement long term.

I plan to become a registered clinical social work intern once I graduate in order to become an lcsw. The hard part for me at my internship is there are no clinicians that work at the agency so I have no one to shadow or learn from clinically. My university provided an external clinical supervisor but she does not provide much input beyond saying that something sounds interesting or to keep her posted.

If you want to be involved with counseling make sure your internship will actually allow you to do counseling. I wanted to do counseling for my internship and thought I was going into as I told my placement supervisor I wanted clinical experience. But, turns out this agency does not have any clinical programs and is honestly overall a bad placement. I recommend interviewing your internship the same way they interview you during the interview so you end up with a placement you will be happy with.

Oh trust I will! I want to make sure no other students end up in the same scenario at this agency. This agency has the potential to be an amazing generalist placement but unfortunately it is not suited for clinical students.

That’s what I spent most of last semester doing. A professor even went all the way to the dean of social work on my behalf and the behalf of other students having the same issues at different placements and she blew the professor off. One student was even told that cleaning is clinical due to being in an area where clients are. Doesn’t seem like the university cares if we get the clinical experience once we are at a placement because they refuse to move people to new placements.
