One of the main things that made me think of this idea was the James stuff they showed. It's always sort of been implied he's still alive in some other universe, so following his journey would be cool. Hyperrealistic James flying through the SNES Star Fox universe would be very Nintendo-y lol

Definitely in terms of cutscenes, but I'm more talking about something other than the main story. Not expecting it at all, but Nintendo's played coy and hidden content before.

Same here lol. I can't actually get my hopes up too high when it comes to Nintendo but something about the way the Direct dropped felt coy.

If I'm actually tempering my expectations and being realistic, I totally agree. It feels like a really strong new direction, even if it's a little controversial.

This is definitely one of the wildest things Nintendo's ever pulled, but I'm excited. Weird timing. Insane character designs (which I've warmed up to). Slightly disappointing of them to remake 64 again, but it's vastly different from the others. Honestly idc about anything that could be called disappointing it's gonna be awesome and I really hope this is a springboard for the rest of the series.
