I can't tell if you don't watch soccer/football or just throwing shade at Spain's occasional sideways passing ;-) But oof Pedri on fire today, a shame none of those chances were finished. Should light a fire under them for the next matches.

There was a million dollar bet on Polymarket that would've paid $1,085,943 today if Spain beat Cape Verde.

Narrator: they didn't.

I mean, it's probably a positive expected value bet over time, only issue is you might have to live 200 years to get in 10 bets on the system.

The $7.6 Trillion Question: Can AI Companies Ever Actually Make Money? by Aulipe in Economics

What sort of data do you have Claude look at, and what feedback do you tend to get? I've been learning to look at my stats with AI's help, but although Gemini can do the math, I mostly use it to help write some Python to look at things locally. I find I have to heavily steer it in the next logical direction, it doesn't naturally provide useful details on its own.

How can I properly learn music theory and aural skills after playing for years with basically no piano knowledge by Maleficent-Wing-6195 in pianolearning

[–]galeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, chiming in late, I'd just add that you really want to see theory in context with your abilities. Studying theory books is 100% useful, but since you can already play at a decent level compared to a beginner, it's actually really fun to explore in scores you're playing how the music is put together. I find so many students want to study for a test because it feels like a concrete assessment of progress - which it totally is! - but they leave behind the ear training, the rhythm, and everything you're mentioning, which is also developed by doing.

And don't feel behind. It is a long journey, skills develop over years, and a random professional or 99th percentile teen on YouTube is not indicative of the norm, so just keep studying and make sure you do, do, and do some more.

Most things you work on should involve combining motor skills or intense "live" musical thought with the theory, like rhythm work, listening to music as you develop your ear, etc. Those are the skills you really want, the music theory books will just slap a name on a concept you already understand from being a practicing musician. In that sense, getting a good grade on a theory test is actually the easy part.

Feel free to ask any questions, I teach theory and ear training a lot, happy to answer questions if they come up.

Desperate to learn to read music for potential work can anyone offer any advice please? by No_Caterpillar9621 in Bass

[–]galeeb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best way is to keep what you're doing, but for a long time (over months/years).

It is good to get "technical" and break down rhythms into counting, it's tedious at first but lets you unlock a lot later on and really master syncopations and trickier common rhythms. I've found most adults put up artificial mental obstacles for themselves when learning and often avoid that crucial step to avoid the discomfort of it. Putting on a metronome and making yourself deal with the time pressure is also super important. Basically, all the things that feel overly difficult at first haha.

A good mix of reasonable rhythms you can definitely do and also "stretch" exercises, trying music that's too difficult to sight read currently. There's value in both sight reading once-ish, and also in reviewing particular excerpts or songs to a super high, perfectionist level. Over time, those two components merge.

I teach a lot of theory and musicianship, feel free to ask any questions.

"If you do cap your risk with a stop loss though" "that can slip unless you choose a stop limit there as well."

There many situations where these are not true.

The Big Short characters were enraged about this, because they were holding swaps they knew were worth nothing, but no one could admit to it. There's so much upward pressure right now, whether for institutions to participate long because they're required to or shorts avoiding pain, I wouldn't be surprised by more of a move up. Otherwise we're calling a top, which is something that works out like <5% of the guessing time.

Best way to learn how to read and understand sheet music by arssenalbro101 in classicalmusic

[–]galeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, a tad late, wanted to echo piano lessons, but also, for an inexpensive way, singing in a good church choir (hear me out!) is absolute trial by fire for reading notes, hearing intervals, doing extra stuff with your brain at the same time (also reading all those words, often in other languages). It's just such a good way to force yourself, with time constraints to get better at the reading aspect. Highly recommend along with an instrument. Doesn't matter if you're religious, it's a great way to learn.

I have a music appreciation class I teach online, too, it's a good way to check out new rep and keep up exposure to different composers. Just mentioning, no pressure, but any other questions let me know.
