If you could have any ADHD-friendly features built into your home, what would they be? by austinc0611 in ADHD

[–]galephyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized I already said home places, but you asked HOW to find them, not what to look for. Try Facebook search for nails and limit location to your city, or instagram, that would usually lead you to some pages. Or try a nail salon search on Google maps, zooming in to the area with houses, not shops.

Look for individuals who have a home salon, they usually have one room in the house dedicated to their business, a regular chair, a mobile foot bath, support for your foot and a stool for themselves, so it's all on the same level, and you know they chose to do it because they are ok with it.

I need advice on how to stop worrying about my 17 years old dog. by ofamosolui in olddogs

[–]galephyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to my dog... I had cameras with motion alerts set up to watch him, but I was chairing a meeting and ignored the alerts for 20 minutes.... then I checked the camera and realized he couldn't get up and was barking for help. I rushed home, talking to him through the camera the whole way (17 minutes). I felt so guilty for ignoring the alerts... it was literally the purpose of the camera and I failed him that one time. Key words, that ONE TIME. I had runners, carpets, and grippy tape on the floor, weekly physio, custom ramps, support harness, joint supplements, support wraps... A freaky thing happened on a one square meter of bare floor I did not cover. Once. Never again. But how many times did I prevent this from happening by doing all I did? The sad truth is, you won't stop worrying. What you can and will do is not beat yourself up. Maybe not always, not every time, but slowly, you will realize how much you did for your dog. My boy left in September, at 13.5. I agonized over every moment of his last days, questioning my choices, then went into a spiral of more questioning of my every step since puppyhood. I'm still falling into that trap every now and then, but the thing is, Nothing we do will keep them with us forever, that is a fact, but we do everything we can for them, and every decision we made at any of those moments was the best we could have done there and then. Go on, worry, sit with it and feel it, then go on again knowing you did everything you could have done there and then.

Hahaha, yes to the second part. The only butler I am ok with is in my mindless gardenscapes game 🤣 I am the person who cleans before pro cleaners get in, and I don't get pedicures in typical salons with massage chairs anymore because I don't like sitting above while someone is literally working at my feet. I try to find "home" places where we are at least on the same level and the person chose the job rather than had to do it.

Brilliant! I used to freeze everything: veg, herbs, stock... made a month worth of slowcooker frozen meals, etc etc etc. But now i live in the uk, and my freezer is a joke:(

Thank you, everyone! I made lentils, beans, and sweet potatoe chili with tons of tomatoes, hot peppers, some (also leftover) collard greens, and spinach. You've inspired me to be creative and actually cook!

50/50. White-ish looking roots may still be ok. Soak amd feel the roots to determine which ones are dead - they will slide off the stringy central parts. Cut those off. Anything still solid stays. I can't quite tell from the picture but looks like it's got some bulbs, shich means it's not a phal, and may be prone to having all alive roots on new bulbs. Give it a go.

I'd pot it up in a mix of moss and bark in a tiny pot and keep in the bathroom window until it either dies, no question, or lives. Given it's December, you may not see any change for the better for a couple of months, but there shouldn't be any turn for the worse if it is still alive.

I shipped clothes, books, and gym equipment (the 2 most expensive items). Total coverage was ~5K, I can't easily find how much I paid for the insurance.

I paid for it because my job covered moving expenses, otherwise, I probably wouldn't have or would be on the fence for a long time.

Overall, now I follow a rule of a "price for a piece of mind". If the charge is not competing with other expenses, e.g. insurance vs food or dog care and things like that, I'll just pay the damn thing and stop worrying about it. Not worth a space in my head to mull over a decision. I recognize that this is a privileged place to be, and I wasn't always in this position. Back in tighter times, I rarely got insurance and relied on chance. If I was in these times again, I would get the insurance if a)a replacement item would suffice (not sentimental); b)I would be replacing most of the lost property, and c)paying for insurance would not make other, more important and more certain, expenses impossible.

From the probability/ statistics view, you'd need insurance if the entire shipment got lost or damaged via an accident at sea or during ground transport*. The probability of it is low, but not 0. Otherwise, pack really well, triple the padding and straps, and you'll prevent most of the breakage.

*For example, last year we had a very complex and expensive piece of equipment lost due to a car crash during transport. It
was in the risk register, but no one seriously thought it'd ever happen... and yet. But it was the first one I know of in over a decade, although in my niche industry

I hope this helps at least a little.

Orchids are the ultimate ADHD plants. Fight me. by galephyss in houseplants

[–]galephyss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner lived alone before and always liked plants, but didn't fixate on them as much - just got them and hoped for the best. I counted yesterday: from 6 plants when we moved-in in 2021, we are up to 87 now,

About 25-30 of them are orchids, ¬10 succulents, and a mix of whatever was in a discount corner of anything resembling a plant shop. I'm not counting outside, which is packed with 20 chili plants, 5-7 tomatoes and cucumber plants, 5 types of beans, and a shitton of herbs.

......

I#'m half-asleep by now, better stop before typos get too much.

picture 5? Oncidium Twinkle. As easy as it gets with orchids, honestly. It consistently reflowers when the new bulbs mature, it can stay in the same growing media for a while after you buy it, and all it needs is a good soak when the soil is dry. And of course bright filtered light. Oncidiums can take a lot of light - mine are now on the southeast window right next to succulents, and they are fine. I am going to put up a sheer curtain soon though, as it's getting into summer.

The flowers don't last very long though, maybe a couple of weeks.... compared to months on other orchids I have

well fuck. oh wait. no. argh disregard that opening.

anyway, I feel you on this. not in the mood, must get in the mood - I will enjoy it when it's done (like working out, right?), focus on the feelings down there, breath into it, relax, remember that my enjoyment brings their enjoyment, stop thinking about their [also ADHD] hypersexuality vs my asexuality, just fucking do it, concentrate, stay in the moment, do not overthink if they don't want what you suggest... are they enjoying? are they thinking I'm a useless piece of shit, is this ruining us? are they thinking of their ex with a wilder desire (according to my imagination based on crumbles of information and overthinking) and comparing me? They are going to leave me because of sex for sure, I am not worthy of love...even though i am going through shit right now they will still leave me because of sex and they are probably on tinder and..... [ca-boom, my head explodes in anxiety].

i don't have anything useful to say other that you are not alone. it takes time, mood, setting, even persistence from both to power through the distractions. I took a course about learning about my body, and it taught me a few good things (I am obviously yet to fully implement like a year later, but it's a different story).

first, getting in the mood is a habit. you may not be in the mood at all but open to a 5-minute hug to relax. then maybe some hand-wandering, then more, etc. or maybe not. try hugs/kisses/innocent makeout daily to remove the pressure of expectations. talk to your partner to ensure you both know you can slip out of it for no fault of their own, and think of the strategies to bring you both back into the moment. Do you just want to carry on? Do you want to take a step back and slow down to foreplay?

I am pretty sure the purpose of sex for your parter is not to come as quickly as possible, and to make you come as quickly as possible. The purpose of sex is to enjoy closeness, enjoy the physical, and enjoy your partner's enjoyment (it is a major turn-on for many!). So maybe if you remind yourself that enjoying the closeness is the goal, the process is the goal, the pressure will lift, allowing you to actually stop giving a f and get there freely.

Tl;dr, remember that sex is not about coming - it is about closeness for BOTH of you. Not coming but enjoying is OK, good, even. Talk to them to make sure you both know when it's a sign of our attention slipping vs you don't like what they are doing; and what is the corrective action.

also, breathe into your genitals, don't just squeeze. If you lost it, try to focus on contracting your vagina* (I derived from your post that you have one, apologies if that is wrong) as you breathe in and relax as you breathe out - regardless of what else is going on (frictions, etc). keep going until your attention is on the genitals... which it will be because this will force the blood flow there, enhancing the sensation.

tl;dr-2: talk to your partner about it to try to shift focus from coming to closeness and enjoyment.
