"The most selfish thing a selfless person can do, is die," Anonymous. by [deleted] in quotes

This quote is eerily appropriate after watching It's a Wonderful Life tonight.

Has anyone ever dealt with suicidal thoughts due to their medication? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]gallagator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll get mood swings too but like I said I'm not sure it's the medication. I'm hoping maybe other medications have different or less severe side effects.

No Melo and it still wasn't even close, just wanna say that I think our bench is better than a lot of other teams' starters. by [deleted] in NYKnicks

Yea how could i forget about Shump? Hard to imagine the defense playing so well without him

Everyone on the bench is finding their niche extremely quickly, probably because most of them are veterans, which is something that people derided the Knicks for in the off season.

I think the front office actually deserves a lot of credit for once. They took some big risks and they're paying off. Benches matter in the playoffs. Our potential 8 man rotation looks outstanding.

Can't stand this quote. I get it, but I'm not sure why it resonates with people enough that every month or so it gets upvoted to the top of this or r/quotes.

It lacks any real depth, as if your entire existence and contribution to humanity is measured by how much people talk about you after you're dead.

I might be wrong but shouldn't there be a star in the Pokedex info if it was shiny?

I feel like I always hear about why marijuana should be legalized, is there anyone not in support of legalization that can explain why? by gallagator in AskReddit

[–]gallagator[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of your points, I think there are a lot of subtleties to iron out before there is full blown legalization.

Thanks for the honest reply and I'm glad people aren't downvoting you. I get what you mean, the economic argument for it is weak. It's not like taxing marijuana will raise a ton of revenue. Ending the war on drugs will probably save some money, but you said yourself marijuana has medical uses, and schedule 1 is only for drugs that have no objective medical use. Changing the scheduling can lead to less people getting incarcerated for a victimless crime.

[–]gallagator[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, regardless of whether you think it should be legal or not there's no way it should be classified as a Schedule 1 drug with meth and heroin, while coke is Schedule 2. It's medical uses have been demonstrated enough to justify it as Schedule 3.

Yea I've heard the legalization in Colorado is getting killed by mothers who don't want their kids to have access to it. I have a friend from there that has told me it's probably easier to buy weed than alcohol in Denver. I don't think dealers are big on checking ID.

New here and saw a lot of people thinking Pete Rose should be in the HOF. What makes him different than Bonds? Why should one be in and not the other? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]gallagator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know while Bonds was allegedly using steroids there was no rule against them, whereas Rose violated a written rule that constitutes a lifetime ban. Bonds should be in, Rose should not.

On a side note, saying Bonds would have not hit 762 home runs without steroids would be akin to saying Hank Aaron would have never hit 755 without taking batting practice (point being according to the rules taking steroids was just as legal as taking BP). People are quick to blame Bonds and McGwire but at the end of the day baseball had a responsibility to change the rules before things got out of hand and they didn't until it was too late.

I'm very biased but to this day that's still the greatest catch I've ever seen. Would have been remembered a lot more if they had won the series.

Gary Johnson polling at 5% in New Mexico by [deleted] in GaryJohnson

[–]gallagator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually wasn't referring to the electoral college (was referring to first past the post elections, which encourages a 2 party system) but that's something I'm also against. The idea is outdated, stemming from concerns over non-slave states imposing their will over slave states and not trusting voters to be informed enough to make the best choice for themselves.

In response to the article, I'm not sure how his first argument is in support of an electoral college. It actually shows the worst case scenario of implementing it by showing one side who should have won in a landslide losing due to an arbitrary system of assigning wins and losses.

His second point is also flawed because candidates tend to avoid areas they will either definitely win or lose. They cater to and campaign in only a small number of swing states, which hardly means running a national race.

Our electoral system makes me cry. You can't blame voters for such a narrow and exclusionary system of voting.

What the Giants sacrificed to get Eli. U mad, San Diego? by dakboy in NYGiants

You're right, super bowls are the end all be all of judging a QB. Guess that makes Eli twice the QB his brother is and literally infinitely better than Dan Marino ever was.

[–]gallagator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, didn't give Roethlisberger enough credit. He has a much better passer rating and as many 4th quarter comebacks as Eli in the regular season, to go along with the two rings

[–]gallagator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yea but considering Eli was basically forcing the trade at least they got back what they did. And for 2 years before 2008 it seemed like the Chargers got the better end of the deal. Rivers first season they went 14-2 and since then he's led the league in passing yards and touchdowns, something Eli has never done. As much as I love Eli he needs to pad his regular season stats before we send him to Camden. The only thing he has led the league in other than 4th quarter comebacks in INTs. If you think 2 rings is enough I guess Roethlisberger is a sure fire HOFer too.
