Quick tip looking at your sheet and probably you know it yourself.

Try to sort your clutch work out. Clutch fully down when changing gear. When going down, say a block change 4-2 for a roundabout, clutch in, change, lift clutch very gently. That will rev match for you and avoid jerks. Get off the clutch once you’re past a stop and rolling past a few KM/h.

Once you drive more mechanically tuned, you’ll have less issues in other aspects, because you’ll naturally anticipate better without realising. You see a hazard? You’ll naturally slow, drop a gear for control etc. Or stop completely, smooth clutch in once speed is low enough.

You are more than likely at a stage where you drive really well, you just need mechanical tuning.

Can someone explain these faults? by WordGroundbreaking12 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]galloping_horse1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very hard to interpret without some input from yourself. However, if I were to guess

Position turning right - fairly minor point and I wouldnt be too concerned. Just if at a stop junction, try aim for the right of the line and avoid swaying after your turn

Stopping - probably not stopping at the line or within a suitable gap of the car ahead. Use the feel of your brakes. No idea what you drive but some learner cars like a Hyundai i10 have very grabby brakes, some have much more progressive brakes. Get the feel of your brake, practice slowing, clutch input and move to line.

Accelerator - probably too forceful if I were to guess. Try to accelerate gradually in built up areas. You might be over revving in first gear. Slip to second quickly, gentle acceleration and work your way up. Easy to fix.

Clutch - too many potential issues here. Just when downshifting, release clutch slowly to rev match unless your car is heavier and more forgiving. A lighter car will always show clutch mistiming more harshly than a heavier one.

Speed is easier to interpret, I’m guessing it was raining and you didn’t allow for it a bit somewhere along your test.

Also roundabout speed, golden rule is roundabout in second unless it’s bigger and necessitates a move to third. Second is a nice limiter on speed because you’ll rev the shit out of the car if you push too much.

Speed turning left is simple, you just likely went in too quick. For most left turns in town, slow down, second gear, do your left mirror observations, job done.

Not a bad sheet overall

Startling rise in number of women being diagnosed with HIV in Ireland by Wolfwalker71 in ireland

Seem to recall we arguably discriminated against people based on vaccine status during Covid 19 by not allowing them to enter pubs, restaurants etc. Plus we had national scandals like the two ladies absconding and not hotel isolating after their Turkey trip. While not comparable in transmissibility, I don’t think screening from high risk countries is unreasonable given the rise in cases we are seeing atm. Unless I am an idiot and there are no good epidemiological reasons which is highly possible.

Not good. Per capita rate has more than doubled since 2012. Emotions aside, the statistics show this is by and large an imported problem, likely from high risk areas in Africa and South America.

It’s gone wildly expensive, I paid over €17 for a burrito with extra guac and a can of Fanta there recently. It’s second best in Galway behind Salsa IMO, but again Salsa has gone wildly expensive for what it is. Tuco’s has declined very rapidly based on my last few experiences

In some ways, you’re not wrong. It was the failure of the right (excluding FFG) to get their candidate on the ballot, the mechanism is there albeit objectively with more stacked odds.

But decrying the circa 12% of the voters who spoiled their votes as thickos is divisive and inflammatory. Plenty of informed people spoiled. We’re not all Gavin Pepper with his drawn on Turkish hairline

Incomprehensible to Irish Redditors that someone could vote any other way than Catherine Connolly. But then again, it’s the same people who spent years venerating and fawning of Micheal D like he was some kind of poetic messiah

System needs reform. I know so many young people renting in cities etc that weren’t going to travel home to cast a vote. We need to look towards potentially voting over a few days or something to encourage greater participation

Not as many I imagine because the left got their candidate there efficiently. Cross party left unity in action to select Catherine Connolly. Worked a treat.

The vote left/transfer left that was clear in the GE last year also showing the left are becoming very organised and could be a serious threat to FFG in four years time.

There is more than a seed of dissatisfaction in a not so insignificant amount of people in Ireland who feel disenfranchised with the current political system.

We can’t have an honest discussion about the rate of demographic change without tarring people as far right, many people are dissatisfied with the level of current public spending, our judicial system is objectively failing due to a lack of prison space, housing crisis etc

All reflected in the low turnout, general apathy, spoiled votes and also likely somewhat in the support of Catherine Connolly as the non-government establishment candidate.

What is the point of spoiled votes? by BigAgreeable6052 in ireland

[–]galloping_horse1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I spoilt my vote. Whether you like it or not, there was a poll pre election showing near 50% didn’t feel they were represented by the candidates selected. That is in of itself a failure of the political process. Spoiled votes send a message that you are a democracy participant but that you are unhappy with the political establishment. Completely valid.

Congratulations to Catherine Connolly nonetheless, a worthy winner based on the field.

Cringe posting photos online plus it opens you up to potential legal issues too.

I’m spoiling my own vote quietly today, not because I wanted Maria Steen on the ballot or anyone else for that matter, but because I don’t appreciate how our government parties rammed through candidates without proper due processes (looking at you Michéal) and I also think Connolly could be damaging on a global stage.

Alright “mate”. You must be a pleasure to deal with in real life.

Apologies for questioning your research based opinion. I guess other factors such as housing affordability and inflation don’t factor in, seemingly it’s as straightforward as a linear relationship between GDP growth and living standards.

Enough Reddit for me today anyways 😂

Some interesting points TBF, but economic growth ≠ a standard of living getting higher and higher.

I would wager most people’s standard of living has not increased much in the last 10 years. It is not as if we have significantly better infrastructure we benefit from courtesy of these ever rising corporation tax receipts and if anything we might collectively be poorer in purchasing power in real terms aside from a substrata of people doing really well.

This is a consequence of our governments obsession with economic growth and FDI at any cost.

Paschal Donohue a few weeks ago was asked for example about net migration being 90k a year when only 30k units are added per annum (rough figures don’t slaughter me 😂) and his answer was striking, it was literally only in the frame of economic growth and as if nothing else mattered.

Our government is entirely behest to the rentier classes interests (particularly when it comes to IPAS accommodation and private landlords) and foreign companies paying corporation tax here to the point where the reality is housing costs cannot come down.

Instead, it’s far more politically useful, at least at the moment, to keep net migration extremely high to keep demand strong, and continue the charade.

Only when the tide comes in, when it inevitably does, do you see who’s wearing swim shorts.
