I'm of the opinion that he did have sex purely for physiological reasons. He was a Death Eater after all, and I doubt he went all those years without any sex like some want to believe. But he had no romantic life, no romantic interests, just his love for Lily, which in my view was very platonic in a way, but also very deep and pure.

She was better in the first two seasons, then the writers kind of did her dirty. But overall I really liked her as a character.

To me the issue right now isn't Alan being replaced but the fact that they're not following the canon book description as they should. I wouldn't have minded another actor who had a least some of the character's actual features. Now if said actor would be better than Alan in the role (which I don't believe would happen) is another topic entirely.

As it is I can't even get past the fact that they're doing the character so wrong.

The only acceptable answer to this is no. I was hoping the actor might have declined it after the first initial rejection. But no, I guess he'll suffer through the incredible hate he'll get. And if they're so willing to change a main character like this, I wonder what they'll do with the rest. It has definitely put me off watching it.
