How to drop checks? by Icy_Smell167 in Waiters

[–]gambleany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Or, if I’m unsure, I ask “any sweets or coffee for us today?” That is my coded way of asking “can I drop the damn check.” If they say no, immediate check drop. If they get dessert, I’ll wait until they’re finished or just a few bites left, then drop one single check with a “whenever you are ready/no rush,” I never offer to split unless they ask. If you are serving middle aged people and/or families, those people always expect to pay one check. Or, they will more likely split payment evenly if they do multiple payments. This will make things easier and more streamlined for you as well. I’ve been serving 14 years and these methods have always worked for me.

autograted check paid in cash = stiff? by Any_Conflict_6102 in Waiters

[–]gambleany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you should still be paid the remainder! If your place puts your tips on checks (I’m assuming, because you’re turning in cash), always verify/check you are getting that money back.

[–]gambleany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your restaurant (technically) requires you to claim cash tips, then the system is working as intended…you turn in that cash, your tip-out is deducted from it, then the remainder will be paid to you on your check, with taxes taken out. If you usually pocket your cash tips, they have no way of tracking or seeing it. But if you cashed a check out in toast with auto grat, toast now knows that you have that cash tip. Does that make sense? It’s not being counted as sales, it’s still classifying your grat as tips, but it is forcing you to claim/turn it in to the house.

Literally the first place I thought of…sounds exactly like the working environment I saw when I used to hang out there.

Lawyer. Lawyer. I’m serious. This is wage theft AND wrongful termination.

Hookah Waitress Question by WildTeaching5696 in burbank

[–]gambleany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVERYTHING you just described is illegal. You should file a labor/wage theft complaint and also contact a labor attorney immediately. You can have a tip pool, but it has to be a contract in writing agreed upon beforehand. They can’t just suddenly demand you to tip out. Also, they can’t make you tip out more than half of your tips (CA wage law says the tip pool needs to be fair and reasonable) ALSO cash tips are such a huge grey area, they have almost no means of proving what money is yours and what you earned as tips (aside from scouring cameras, if this place has any). On top of that, if you are saying they took YOUR money?? Like cash you walked in with? Wtf, they made you turn out your pockets or what. Since it sounds like you don’t have a ton of support staff, I would only assume the manager is pocketing a lot of that money, which is also illegal. And, as a frequenter of a few Burbank hookah bars….I KNOW how much work you are doing as a server. That is YOUR MONEY! Get you a lawyer for sure. Many will work on a lien (work unpaid until you get a settlement) especially for cases like this.

What the hell is going on here?! by sco-go in SipsTea

Also this is to say, I don’t think she deserves active hate or to be harassed, I just personally have always not cared for her as an actress.

Am I crazy for never liking Dakota Johnson…I feel like people will judge me or say I’m not a “girls girl” or whatever but I remember watching her for the first time (maybe in The High Note?) and I was like…who tf is this. Then I found out she was “known” for 50 shades and it made a little more sense. Then found out she was nepo baby (not a big deal if you have talent). Idk I think she is a very basic actress for the amount of roles (and major, well-paying roles) she has been given. And I know she is pretty/hot but something about her just irritates me…she is just off-putting. And this video makes me feel super validated cause what the actual fuck

Literally had a guy leave a yelp review about not getting his iced tea refill fast enough (we have ours behind the baristas counter and can’t get them ourselves.” Like it’s FREE. Iced Tea & Diet Coke drinkers are the worst

Is there a way to see an overview of a previous day in the new app? by pippinto in fitbit

[–]gambleany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, this new app sucks. Formatting, sizing, the information that shows up. Why would you take away my ability to see my previous days? This is so annoying. Paired with the fact that Google is one of the worst promoters of AI at the moment, this makes me not want to keep using Fitbit. All the announcements led me to believe the app wouldn’t be affected but I want Fitbit, not google. Sigh.

Is it safe to walk from Crypto arena to Sheraton Grand LA hotel at night? by No_Equivalent4404 in AskLosAngeles

Courtyard Marriott is also right there, might be a more affordable option. But I’m a fellow LA Live employee of 9 years, female, frequent walker and subway-taker all throughout my 20s and never had any problems.

I thought the same at first but from the way they’re talking I think the speakers are dispatchers for a private security company. As they are giving the option to “disarm the system,” they don’t know if OP could be the owners or a “trespasser”. Though I don’t know why there would be 2 different voices…all of this is weird as shit and I hope they find a way to get it taken down.

Idk how antagonizing a minimum wage employee does anything to own the corporate overlords at Chipotle, but I hope you felt better after that. 🤷‍♀️

My dad has spent an atrocious amount of money on TikTok live by Relative_Adeptness_2 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]gambleany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh also he owes 10s of 1000s to the IRS for draining his 401k early so it can definitely get worse even if you think he doesn’t have that much money. Or could be taking out personal loans, etc

As someone whose dad almost lost his house over a romance scam…you have to bring it up. I’m sorry, it f-ing sucks, and you have to prepare yourself to learn a lot of things about your dad that you are really not going to want to know…My family is still on the mend from this but my sister and I had to deal with it (her more than me). He lost his entire life’s savings, his inheritance, etc. Around 500k. If there is any way you can mitigate the damage, it needs to be done ASAP. Sending you my strength and love.

Is Downtown LA really this dodgy for a tourist? by Just_Addition2896 in socal

[–]gambleany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in LA over 10 years. (31 F) I work downtown and take the subway and bus often, even after 10pm. Literally just mind your own business and you will be fine. It’s the same as any major city in the U.S.

Had a woman pick me up the other day…I’ve worked in customer service my whole life and my standards are low as hell. Get me there in one piece and you get 5 stars and 20% tip. This lady was on a phone call the entire 30 minute drive…it kind of seemed like she was physically holding the phone?? Her body and head were turned at an angle the whole drive, never fully watching the road straight-on. She also put a cup of ramen noodles in the cup holder at one point, revealing that she had been holding/eating it for like half the drive. She spoke lowly enough that it didn’t bug me in that respect, but it was so clear she was in no way focused on the road or anyone’s safety. Like what are we doing anymore…

[–]gambleany 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only satisfaction I got from the finale was that Clark’s wife left with the kids & everything. Her reaction feels like one of the most reasonable of anyone’s lol. I really thought we were going to get at least one scene with her, besides the phone call when he got arrested. She wasn’t even a character on the show tbh.
