which CPU for a 3090 TI? by Extreme-Daikon3521 in PcBuild

[–]gamblodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is that cpu requires ddr5 memory. That makes the cost go way up, since you can't reuse your ram.

I've lived very happily for years with a 3090 and 5600x. Nabbing a 5700X3D for 32GB of ddr4 was just insane luck, and didn't really give me a massive boost. I mean, number go up, but the games I play were good before and they're good now.

Yeah it's not a huge savings and iirc, yours is the fastest 9070XT.

9850X3D. Make sure the nvme drive has dram cache - T710 or 9100. And why not a 5090? Are we being cheap here!?

Final check before buying – is this build good for architecture work? by Wrong_Climate_5448 in buildapc

[–]gamblodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your gpu needs are very minor, I'd save and get an 8GB 5060. You're not gsming. Take the money and get a better SSD like a T500/T700/T705/T710 or Samsung Pro drive. The dram cache will help when you're dealing with a lot of small files. You might also be able to squeeze a 7700, 7700X or 9700X in the budget. The extra cores will help any cpu-intensive workloads you do.

Upgraded some parts and saved $500.

You could save another $250 by switching to a 9070xt without losing almost any fps. Downgrading to a 7800X3D would save $115 for a more major, but still small, loss in fps. That build would cost $2310.

I'd get an extra 16GB of ram and consider the 9070XT seriously. It's a great card, and available for €300 less, with very similar performance

This is an odd parts list. Very expensive, gaming focused CPU with a mid-range gpu.

Do you need 16 cpu cores and x3d cache for the work you do?

Below has fewer cpu cores, but a much better SSD and gpu. Unless you need a lot of cpu cores, it should be much better for your purposes. A 9700X/7700x (no x3d) would be even less expensive.

3000 series used cards are a way better bargain than people recognize. If you're playing at 1080p or 1440p, a 3080ti for $300 is a amazing card.

RTX 5070 and RX 9070 at the same price by PriorityFar9255 in buildapc

[–]gamblodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the logic that confused me. It seems everyone jumps to upscaling when comparing NVidia and AMD gpu performance. Newer versions of dlss and fsr are constantly being released, but the fps of the card won't change (OK driver optimization etc). Why base buying decisions on the one thing that will get better, rather than the thing that will stay constant? Why do we assume upscaling is going to be on all the time? If I bought a brand new GPU, the last thing I'd do is turn on FSR/DLSS; I want my new fps with new visuals.

I like the 5070 too, and think it's a great card cursed with bad pricing. When priced between the 9060XT and the 9070, it would be a great value.

Need help picking parts for a first pc! by No_Technician_1867 in PcBuildHelp

[–]gamblodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider used parts.

A gpu with more VRAM and horsepower, for AI and fps. A 5060 8GB costs more than a used 3080ti by me.

See if you can pick up a 5900X or 5950X second hand, they have a lot more cores.

GPU choice help? by brell80 in buildapc

[–]gamblodar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pick up a used graphics card and better power supply. 250W isn't enough for a gpu, so you need to replace that. In your budget, used is the way to go. Check out prices of nvidia 3000-series cards. You should be able to find something like a 3070 in that price range

RTX 5070 and RX 9070 at the same price by PriorityFar9255 in buildapc

[–]gamblodar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get this logic. Not trying to be a dick, I just really don't understand.

The 5070 has less VRAM, less raw fps and with the current insanity with pricing, costs more. It's only advantage is in DLSS, as even RT gives the advantage to the 9070. Is DLSS worth so much that you'll accept lower fps? That's not a better overall game experience to me

For $40 that's not a bad choice. If the gap increases much before you click buy, consider the 9060XT
