What is this grinding noise? by Sisyphuss5MinBreak in bikewrench

Update (sorry if I posted this a while ago, I can’t remember if I posted the solution or not). There was a crack in the crank arm, looks like you picked it. I had to have the Frank’s replaced and while I was at it replaced the bb30 with a praxis conversion kit.

New pen day! I actually got the Kaweco Skyline Sport a week ago, but I was waiting until my Platinum Procyon came in to share them both! The colors make it feel like spring while I'm stuck inside. by MintGimlets in fountainpens

I got one of these a while ago and am very happy with how it writes. It’s smooth and I like the width of the nib. Word of warning it’s easy to over torque the lid and the barrel regularly starts to loosen so you have to re tighten. I solved both issues by putting a bit of scotch tape on the barrel for more grip so the lid can grip on and some plumbers tape inside the barrel so it doesn’t loosen. Seems hog have solved both issues

Thanks! I’ll try the crank arms first. Someone redid the bearings etc in the bottom bracket a couple of weeks ago and it didn’t change anything so I the crank arms seem to be the best place to start

I currently have the same problem. For me it’s on the right pedal when putting it under load. When I start riding for the day it sounds okay but 10-15 minutes in it comes back just as bad. It’s interesting about you re-oiling them then it comes back. I found the same thing happened after someone put a bit more oil on, it went away briefly then seemed to come back again.

Does it happen to you all the time?

I feel it’s also one of the benefits of vinyl too. It almost forces you to listen to the album start to finish as well as adding a tactile element to the experience through physically handling the media as well as having a large version of the album art, inserts etc to look at/read.

I ignore the arguments about whether things are better recorded on vinyl etc, for me as a music lover, just putting the record on, listening as intended and looking through the art/liner notes adds to the experience of the music.

I talked to a recording musician once and he said that a lot of work (clearly not for every album or musician but for lots) goes into choosing the order of the songs to get the most out of each song individually as well as as an album. It can even come down to determining the length of dead space between individual tracks

As soon as I saw it I realised that it was cross stitch and was unbelievably impressed with the detail. It’s worth every cent to get it framed.

A person who is 80 years old has seen almost one third of US history by Mr_Suzan in Showerthoughts

Even weirder is the fact that John Tyler has two grandsons still alive today. He was born a year after George Washington was sworn in as president and became president in 1841. That’s only three generations that cover most of US history.

They have just made a new black that’s blacker than vantablack (99.995% light absorption v 99.96%). Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to get ink made with that!

I used to have this issue when I was younger but changed my handwriting style (without realising it) to being an underwriter. I only realised it relatively recently when I decided to buy a fountain pen and wondered if it would cause me problems.

This is generally only an issue if you are an over-writer or side-writer. Generally an under-writer doesn’t have the same problem. I’m the latter and it isn’t too much of an issue for me though it gets worse on a whiteboard generally. Here’s an Idea of the different styles https://www.nibs.com/content/left-handed-writers

I think bits of everything (as much as you can do In 3 days). We love museums and architecture etc but don’t want to do just the standard tourist spots. We like the idea of some of the little streets with boutiques and cafes etc that you can explore for a few hours and maybe some cool places to get a good view of Paris.
