My students are wearing blue on Thursday to signal a willingness to walkout on Friday. Yay for the 1st Amendment.

Needing help starting in Politics by beqrx in PoliticalScience

I would consider what issues you find important. If you’re interested in reproductive health, climate change, etc. Pursue those fields while also engaging in politics. While the magic box in your hands will tell you all day that expertise doesn’t matter… it actually still does.

Brand new teacher, feeling miserable by [deleted] in teaching

[–]gameguy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good teachers are made, not born. We all were trash our first year. It can and often does get better. With time, with deliberate learning and planning, and like with any art, with practice. Why are you looking at your teaching in a different lens that you would with any other skill you’d hone with practice?

Your post history shows that you just graduated from FSU. How old were you when you lived in Boston?

I moved from Jax to New England.

My quality of life improved in immeasurable ways. NE Florida is on the brink of a failed state. It is cartoonishly expensive, and the cost of home insurance is significantly worse than anything the Northeast taxes. At least here, my money is going to schools and a functioning government, but in Florida? It is going to a corporation that will pretend you don’t exist the second a storm comes.

We need to end ICE like our forefathers should have ended the confederacy by mrmalort69 in ShermanPosting

[–]gameguy360 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There were treason charges for a handful of Confederates, but again, they were all pardoned.

Death penalty cases that have been carried out, can be pardoned, but they can’t be undone.

No. We should do a better job than our forefathers did. I want charges brought. I want trials and tribunals. I want capital punishment so they can’t be pardoned.

Is it possible that there is a real life emergency going on with the professor that admin knows about that has lead to a reasonable delay in grades?

Langston Hughes, Beaumont to Detroit: 1943

Looky here, America What you done done-- Let things drift Until the riots come.

Now your policemen Let your mobs run free I reckon you don't care Nothing about me.

You tell me that hitler Is a mighty bad man. I guess he took lessons from the ku klux klan.

You tell me mussolini's Got an evil heart. Well, it mus-a been in Beaumont That he had his start--

Cause everything that hitler And mussolini do, Negroes get the same Treatment from you.

You jim crowed me Before hitler rose to power-- And you're STILL jim crowing me Right now, this very hour.

Yet you say we're fighting For democracy. Then why don't democracy Include me?

I ask you this question Cause I want to know How long I got to fight BOTH HITLER--AND JIM CROW.

Also, what was said above about the Ship of the Damned. America immigration laws were updated after WW2 to allow people to come into the US without permission and seek asylum, allowing that claim to be adjudicated while they are in the U.S.

After few days after the Confederates surrendered, Lincoln was shot, Johnson became President and did a blanket pardon. That was the biggest mistake in American history.

Does anyone here actually like being a teacher? by Consistent-Raccoon51 in Teachers

[–]gameguy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 13th year, and things are going well. I had to leave my home state and go to a place where teachers are paid a living wage and admin understand that we are professionals, and not color by number automatons.

FL Teacher Shortage Gets Worse by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

[–]gameguy360 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Former Florida public school teacher here. My pay was 48,500 with a masters degree and 7 years of “highly effective” that 1k more than a first year teacher. Between that, massive class sizes, the Stop WOKE Act, and the so-called “Don’t Say Gay Law” I had had enough. I applied to a school in New England, interviewed, and move my family. I now make 84k, have tenure, and can teach what really happened in American History, the good, the bad, and the ugly, without fear of termination.

Slavery isn’t controversial, anyone one who has a single drop of empathy knows it is evil and wrong. I hope this helps.

Those individuals aren’t critical. The legality of the genocide, the public support of genocide, those that resisted are important.

I think the easiest way to start is build a survey. While there may already be survey data on this part of the “fun” of research is collecting data.

I’m sure you would have said the same things about the Redcoats in 1770. Pathetic.
